Part 1: In 2025 the Eastern Colorado Historical Society discovered on a barren section of land, a lonely headstone. Covered in blow dirt for over 147 years, it is curious to us, how an intricately carved headstone could still be visible after all these years and who does this headstone belong to. The Eastern Colorado Historical Society unearthed the stone, which was only visible by the very top sticking out of the hard barren dirt.
Once the stone was made visible again, it was examined and it was determined that the stone read Joe MC 1878 or 1879 RIP Killed by Indins (sic). Why was this headstone in a remote place in Cheyenne County? Who did this stone belong to? What happened that he was killed by Indian(s)? The members of the Eastern Colorado Historical Society set out to find the answers. From what we were able to determine with newspaper and the History Book, here is the beginning of the story. Stay tuned in the following weeks as the story continues.
