Nets are now up at the outdoor courts at the ⛳️ course. Remember to thank our dedicated volunteers who make this possible. There was a lot of needles, and Dave Thompson thanks for sweeping up the pine needles.

As we transition into warmer weather, we are considering putting up the outdoor nets net up. I will be looking at the weather to figure out when we can fully transaction to outdoor play. Please check the HEJA app.
I would like to ask everyone that plays on the outdoor courts to remember that we are graciously allowed to play on PRIVATE property and to be aware of being respectful to the homeowners near the courts. Please clean up after yourself and also be respectful of hours of play which are no earlier than 8 am and no later than 8 pm. It would be sad for this to be taken away because we didn't honor these requests.

Hello all you beautiful souls that love pickleball. I want to let everyone know that there are a lot of counterfeit paddles being sold online. I recently went to a Selkirk clinic and the Selkirk coaches said it has become a big problem in the industry. Please go the manufacturer's directly to purchase your paddle. We have one member that bought paddle on eBay and it is definitely counterfeit.

At NE Washington Pickleball Association, we believe in the generosity of local communities and their ability to take on challenges large and small. We have launched our campaign, to help the Chewelah School District repair the leaking gymnasium roof where indoor pickleball is played in Chewelah. The goal is to raise $5,000 and with the community’s help we are halfway to the goal. The gymnasium is part of a historic school building. It has served the Chewelah community since 1911 and the roof repair is a small price to pay for its enduring and continuing service as a place for school athletic activities and a public venue for indoor pickleball during the winter. NEWPA will match the first $2,500 donated to this campaign. Pickleball players and students alike will benefit from a safer place to play during the winter. The funds will expedite repairs and stop further damage to the building. NEWPA asks you to make a donation to repair the roof and preserve this landmark building's use into the future. Dear NEWPA Members,

The NEWPA Nominations Committee is pleased to present the official slate of candidates for our upcoming board elections. We sincerely thank all members who submitted nominations for their interest in serving the club.
As a reminder, these elections will fill the following positions for the upcoming term, which begins on September 6, 2025:
Vice President
Secretary
Chewelah Member At Large
We have an impressive group of candidates who have stepped forward to offer their skills and passion to our organization. We encourage you to review their biographies and statements to make an informed decision when you vote.

Meet the Candidates

For the position of Vice President:
Guy Lenny: I humbly apply for the position of NEWPA Vice President (VP). Living in Colville over the past 5 years and having played Pickleball this past year has allowed me to become friends with many outstanding people. My love for Pickleball is only a small part of my desire to become the next NEWPA VP, my main motivation is three prong.
To share my professional strengths, in the continued growth of Pickleball in our local community of Colville, as well as up and down HWY 395.
Drive the development of a Northeast Washington Major League Pickleball League. Making NEWPA MLP a success will allow a new format of team play, spice up the usual tournament format, promote community/team building, and provide a competitive town/city rivalry.
Continue to ensure indoor (winter) and outdoor (summer) Pickleball facilities remain available for all NEWPA club members. This includes forecasting upcoming facility availability, as membership growth ensuring the facilities meet the demand of the club, and finally safeguarding funds for the maintenance of each facility.

For the position of Secretary:
None: No candidates have come forward.

For the position of Chewelah Member At Large:
Ela Short-Conner: I am excited for the opportunity to volunteer to support our pickleball community as member at large. I fell in love with pickleball the first time I played and never looked back. It is a wonderful way to build friendships and stay healthy. Whatever I can do to grow our pickleball community will be an honor. Thank you for choosing me to support our wonderful club.

Next Steps and Important Dates

Meet the Candidate: Please reach out to the candidates to discuss their interest in the position and you can hear from them directly. If you have interest in serving in an open position, please bring it to a board members attention.
Voting: The election will take place on September 6, 2025 at 9am during our Annual General Meeting at Yep Kanum Park in Colville. Voting can be done in person or by filling out the proxy form and delivering it to a board member before voting begins. Remember, only members in good standing (did not let their membership laps), can vote.

The 3rd Annual Picklefest event was held at the Chewelah Court Center on Sat, July 12. The Club raised $305 in support of future improvements at the Chewelah Court Center. Sixteen fierce competitors played in the Round Robin style tournament. The top four point winners were Chris, Douglas, Lisa and Tonja. Congratulations these competitors and everyone else that joined in on the fun. Of course, NONE of this could happen without the volunteers who planned and contributed all necessary muffins, tents, tables, chairs and swag bags. Thank you one and all. I am already looking forward to Picklefest 2026.
