The Eta Iota Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is proud to participate in Project Cradle Care, supporting at-risk mothers and newborns. The recipients of our efforts are participants in the Babies Born Healthy Program. Their mission is to reduce maternal & infant mortality and improve birth outcomes for vulnerable families.

We’re assembling care kits with essential items and handmade knit hats to ensure every baby gets a warm, healthy start in life and help the new moms feel supported.

On December 14, 2024, Eta Iota Sigma Alumnae Chapter completed its Donation Drive to benefit the residents of the western part of North Carolina, many of whom lost all of their belongings as the result of Hurricane Helene. The Donation Drive was the brain child of Past International Grand Basileus Mynora J. Bryant, who hails from North Carolina. Between December 13th-14th, 2024 members loaded a medium-sized Uhaul truck with household items ranging from clothes to furniture to be transported to those in need. Basileus Brewster-Johnson received the letter of acknowledgement from the Mayor of Princeville for the chapter’s records.

We are so proud to have been able to provide these much needed resources and would like to publicly thank all those who donated to such an amazing cause!

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.’s 21st International Grand Basileus and Eta Iota Sigma’s Chapter Charter Basileus Dr. Mynora J. Bryant hails from the great state of North Carolina. Upon seeing the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, she asked Eta Iota Sigma to spearhead a donation drive for items to help those hardest hit. Until December 13th, we are collecting new or gently used clothing, shoes, blankets, coats, toys, and diapers. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated. Our Story

On Saturday, November 3, 1990 Eta Iota Sigma Chapter was chartered in Chevy Chase, MD. The ceremony and reception was held at the New Embassy Suites Hotel at the Chevy Chase Pavilion. Many dignitaries were among the 125 persons who attended our first major event. The 14th Northeast Region Syntaktes, Shirley L. Smith, presented the charter members and the Undergraduate Chapter Coordinator, Paulette Davis, presented the charter.This chartering ceremony was unique in that the Eta Iota Sigma Chapter Philo Club was organized at this chartering. The National Philo President, Annette F. Adams, represented the Philos. The Chapter received its charge from the past Grand Basileus of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Dr. Lorraine A. Williams.
