As Memorial Day approaches, we are called to pause, reflect, and pay our highest respects to the brave men and women who laid down their lives in service to our country. To ensure their ultimate sacrifices are never forgotten, VFW Post 10380, The city of Cheviot, Cheviot Eagles and the Cheviot Historical Society invites you, your family, and your neighbors to join us for our annual Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026.
This year’s parade will officially step off at 11:00 AM from Bridgetown Cemetery. The procession will travel down Bridgetown Road, onto Harrison Avenue, and proceed to Glenmore Avenue. We encourage community participation at every level. You are fully welcome to line the streets to wave the American Flag, join on foot, or have your children ride along on their bicycles. Please bring your American flags, stand proud with your families, and show our remaining veterans the deep gratitude.
The parade will end at Glenmore Avenue with a time-honored military tribute, featuring a traditional 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps to honor our fallen brothers and sisters in arms.
Following this street-side tribute, all participants, spectators, and guests are invited to gather for a ceremony at The Eagles 11:45 am located at 3807 Glenmore Avenue. Drinks and refreshments will be provided by The Eagles. During this gathering, the Cheviot Historical Society will present a special dedication to honor and remember the 27 local men from our community who were killed in action during World War II (Names on two plaques Cheviot Memorial Building).

The Cheviot Historical Society, in partnership with Cheviot History, has always been dedicated to preserving the rich history of Cheviot. To date, we have published two books on Cheviot’s past, as well as a community coloring book.
Our next project, a new book focusing entirely on the 11 mayors who have served the Village and City of Cheviot.
Did you know?
Mayors Gingerich and Bennett are the only two mayors who were actually born in Cheviot.
Mayor Hay holds the unique distinction of serving as both the Mayor of the Village of Cheviot and the Mayor of the City of Cheviot.
Mayor Gingerich was our longest-serving mayor, leading our community for 26 years. He is also one of two mayors who passed away while in office, alongside Mayor Von Holle.
Two of our mayors were practicing lawyers, Mayor Wesselman and Mayor Laumann.
Mayors Fischer and Wesselman both resigned during their terms, while Mayor Schottelkotte, our first mayor born after 1900, was actually never elected to the position!
Mayors Hay and Bennett, being the only two mayors to lose a re-election campaign.
Do you have a personal memory, an old family story, a unique story or photos about any of our past mayors? If so, please share it with us! Your contribution might just find a home in the pages of the upcoming Mayors of Cheviot book.
We do not have an official release date just yet, we are working to bring this project to life.
