🐅💦 Fresh water, fresh pool, and one very happy tiger!

The second pool in Amal and Rani's habitat, located below the observation deck, has been refilled and is ready for summer lounging. The girls wasted no time checking it out and climbing right in to enjoy the cool water.

Like many big cats, Amal and Rani love having options. That's why these sisters have two pools in their habitat—just in case they decide they don't feel like sharing! 😄

Watching our residents enjoy simple comforts like a clean, cool pool is one of the many joys of caring for these amazing animals.

🐅🌅 A peaceful morning at National Tiger Sanctuary.

As the sun rises just outside of Branson, Missouri, Amal is already up and about. This beautiful tigress is taking her morning stroll, carefully checking the perimeter of her large naturalistic habitat and surveying everything around her.

For big cats like Amal, exploring their surroundings is an important part of their daily routine. Every scent, sound, and sight is worth investigating as she plans out the adventures that await her throughout the day.

There's something special about the quiet mornings here at the sanctuary—watching the animals greet a new day in their own unique way.

🐆👃 Midnight has discovered something interesting!

This beautiful black leopard is perched on one of her favorite boulders, investigating a scent enrichment item. Judging by her expression, she's showing what animal care professionals often call the "Flehmen Response"—sometimes affectionately referred to as the "stinky face."

When a big cat encounters an especially interesting scent, they may curl back their upper lip and hold their mouth slightly open. While it may look funny to us, they're actually gathering more information about the smell and transferring scent particles to a special sensory organ in the roof of their mouth called the Jacobson's organ.

Scent enrichment is an important part of caring for big cats in human care. New and exciting scents encourage exploration, stimulate natural behaviors, and help keep their minds active and engaged. Many of our residents absolutely love investigating different scents and discovering what surprises their keepers have left for them.

We think Midnight's "stinky face" is pretty adorable. What do you think she's smelling? 😄🐾
