Today Kent County High School students participated in the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) School Club Roundup Contest. Our club had four members who helped introduce Amateur Radio to the students. The club station is located inside the school in the classroom area of the broadcast station where students are learning about and getting certified in Broadcasting as part of their school academic courses. Amateur Radio is there to teach them more about Radio communications with practical hands on experience. There were two High Frequency (HF) stations operating on 10, 15, 20 and 40 meter bands and the club station's new permanent satellite station. Many students were able to make satellite contacts with stations in the USA and also France and Germany all going through Amateur Radio satellites. On the HF stations contacts were made with other schools and Amateur Operstors all around country and St Lucia, Barbados and Camen Islands. It was a great of leaning fun for the students.

OSCAR Satellite AO-7 failed in 1981 but came back on the air recently while its solar panels are in the sunlight.

I had the pleasure of making four contacts this weekend with this historic satellite. I'm 71 years old and graduated back in 1974 the same year this satellite was placed in orbit. It was a thrill to make contacts using this piece of Amateur Radio history.

AMSAT-OSCAR 7, or AO-7.

Built by radio amateurs and launched on 15 November 1974, this little 28.6 kg spacecraft worked for nearly seven years before its battery failed in 1981. AO-7 went silent and everyone quite reasonably assumed that was that. AMSAT

KE5NJ at Camp Rodney Scout Reservation for Jamboree On the Air (JOTA). The setup includes IC-7300 to a TA-33 Jr tri-band beam, a IC-9700 with SAT satellite controller, G-5500 rotator and 144/440 Arrow beams. This location is surrounded by trees and my smaller satellite antenna system isn't very good but it was fun making a few contacts on the historic AO-7 that was launched in 1974, died in 1981 but recently came back on the air while in sunlight.
