Open Doors Partners in Education

Open Doors Partners in Education We are a 501(c)3
organization dedicated to increasing the literacy rate in our community.

Open Doors Partners in Education strives to increase the literacy rate of struggling readers by providing tutoring, offering educational enrichment opportunities, and increasing community awareness of learning differences in Kent County and its surrounding communities. We use the Orton-Gillingham approach as the core of our tutoring sessions. The Orton-Gillingham approach is a direct, explicit, mu

lti-sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia. To find out more about Orton-Gillingham please visit the website for the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators.

We couldn’t be happier about sponsoring an amazing educational opportunity. ❤️

Reading is not guessing. Students learn how to look at words, break them into parts, and use sounds and patterns to read accurately. Without this instruction, unfamiliar words often lead to guessing instead of true reading.
For struggling readers, this takes time. As foundational skills strengthen, students begin to decode and spell more accurately, build fluency, and grow into confident, independent readers.

We are so thankful to have received another summer camp sponsorship from Open Doors Partners in Education! We are SO grateful and excited to use the money to provide scholarships for summer music camps to kids who need it. 🥰

It’s been a roller coaster of weather the last couple of weeks, but our students are working hard no matter what Mother Nature has in store for the day. The classrooms are full, the lessons are fun, and each week our students get closer to their reading goals. We are ready for spring! ☀️🌷

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who braved the storm and showed up to support us. Your encouragement, flexibility, and generosity mean more than we can say.

A heartfelt thank you to Barbara Esmonde and Barbara’s at the Market for hosting this pop-up shop to support literacy and Open Doors.

An extra special thank you goes out to Marzellas, Happy Chicken, Pete and Tracye Landon, Ed and Linda Gent, and Dawn Holmes for volunteering their time, providing supplies, and stepping in wherever needed. We truly could not have done this without you.

We hope everyone enjoys their Aberdeen Rumble on this snowy, cold Sunday. Our hearts are full, and we hope your bellies are full too!

We are deeply grateful to Peoples Powered by Hanscom Federal Credit Union for selecting Open Doors as one of the nonprofits to receive a $2,000 donation.

We were honored to be invited to their event and celebrate alongside so many organizations doing meaningful work in our community.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for investing in literacy and in the families we serve.

“It’s not thunder, it’s just Aberdeen.”

If you’re a local, chances are you’ve said this at least once. The Aberdeen Rumble was created in a restaurant across from Aberdeen Proving Grounds, where the booms and rumbles are impossible to ignore. Just like this sandwich.
