GREAT FUNDING NEWS FOR BROAD REACH SCULPTURE!!
An anonymous donor has stepped forward with matching funds of up to $20,000 towards the remaining $40,000 needed to construct and install the Broad Reach children’s sculpture at Wilmer Park.
This means that every dollar donated between now and April 30 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $20,000!
You can donate any amount, either through the Broad Reach GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/CtownSculpture or by check earmarked “Broad Reach Donation” to the Town of Chestertown, 118 N. Cross Street, Chestertown, MD 21620. Charitable contributions to the Town of Chestertown are tax-deductible under section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Chestertown’s support for the arts hearkens back to 1898, when private funds were raised by the dedicated women of the Ladies Improvement Society to beautify Fountain Park. Central to that effort was the purchase of a fountain by Robert Wood & Co., a Philadelphia based foundry. Inspired by a sculpture by Antonio Canova, the fountain features the goddess H**e, cupbearer of the gods, and has served as a welcoming ambassador to citizens and visitors for nearly twelve decades.
Similarly, Broad Reach will serve as a metaphor for our community’s maritime roots and its flourishing arts scene. It is also the inaugural work initiated by the Chestertown Public Arts Master Plan, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town Program.
Broad Reach was designed to provide a welcoming space for young families and visitors to Wilmer Park, and it will serve as a beacon for Chestertown’s vibrant downtown and Arts and Entertainment District.
Stay tuned for details about the unveiling and dedication plans, which are tentatively scheduled for May 2017.
