Northern Bobwhite populations have drastically decreased on Maryland’s Eastern shore. Fortunately, throughout the state, there are programs dedicated to restoring habitat in efforts to bring back the population. Thanks to management practices at our specific site, Northern Bobwhite calls are heard all morning during the breeding season. We are lucky enough to occasionally capture them in our nets during banding efforts as well. Pictured above is an adult female.

Here is one more baby to round out our collection of young birds. This Carolina Wren might look more or less the same as an adult bird, but this picture shows the fleshy gape at the corners of its bill, a good characteristic of a juvenille.

All banding is conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey.
