To honor Juneteenth and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, RiverArts is inviting members to submit work for our mini pop exhibition, What Does Freedom Look Like? We are looking for artwork that reflects your own interpretation of freedom, whether that’s through history, family, community, patriotism, identity, protest, joy, resilience, or everyday life. Freedom can mean something different to everyone. We welcome a wide range of ideas, perspectives, and artistic styles that encourage conversation and reflection on what freedom has meant, and still means, in America today.
The exhibition will open June 19, 2026 at the Chestertown Visitor’s Center and will also feature a dynamic public art installation, The Wall of Un-Freedom, where community members can share thoughts on oppression, barriers, and the changes they hope to see in 2026 before joining together to symbolically knock the wall down at 5:00 p.m. Opening night will also include music by Sombarkin and community drummers.
