Man, is it slick out there! Particularly on Kipp—which I just trail ran yesterday. For all of my chester trail hikers, crampons or nano spikes are a must this weekend.

❄️ Get your skis on! ❄️ Carol Fish trails & Cunningham trails are open with fresh tracks!

Great skiing! Almost all trails opened up now, nice tracks, many are double-tracked. Also Cunningham Ski Trail has been opened. With Cunningham and trails like Kamikaze, don't ski them unless you can ski hilly terrain safely.

Never let the cold stop you from going outside and doing what you love—just remember to proceed with caution.
This weekends forecast isn’t the most appealing...Saturday’s high is only 5 degrees! Here are some tips for staying dry and warm this weekend:

❄️Dress in layers and avoid wearing cotton. Micro fiber wool is one of my best friends—keeps you insulated but also keeps you dry.

❄️Know your forecast. It’s important to check your hourly forecast. If you’re in higher elevations, the weather patterns can be more unpredictable and you must be prepared for anything (blizzards & low visibility included).

❄️Bring the right gear. Jumping off my last point...higher elevations will have different weather patterns, ultimately leading to unpredictable snow and ice accumulation. If you haven’t already, invest in some micro spikes, nano spikes, or crampons. These will ensure your safety on icy trails.

❄️Time management is important. In the winter the sun goes down earlier than other months. Start longer hikes earlier in the day to optimize your daylight. Even if you’re not planning to be out late, pack a head lamp in case you are out longer than anticipated or you get lost.

Another extremely productive trail work day on Kipp Mt hiking trail. Our hope is that today’s hard work prevents the trail from widening & causing more erosion. Thanks to all who showed up—we wouldn’t have such spiffy Chester trails without you! The Chester Challenge Supporters Town of Chester-Warren County

TAP will be teaming up with The Chester Challenge Supporters for another trail work day! After last weekends awesome turnout & progress made on the Carol Fish Trails, we’d like to keep the momentum going on another fan favorite Chester trail...

Here’s a message from Dan Smith who leads most of the trail work done for the town (Thanks for all that you do, Dan!) :

“WORK DAY AT KIPP MOUNTAIN - We'll be having a volunteer work day Saturday Dec. 4th, meeting at 9 am at the trailhead (if you come later you can catch up to us). We'll be laying down poles (small dead trees) to line the trail, maybe some brush too, to keep the trail from widening out too much and becoming a "herd trail". All that you would need for the work would be gloves, although 1 or 2 folding hand saws could be handy (I have some). You should probably dress in layers and bring water, although I'll plan on bringing some bottled water and some snacks. Hunters will be notified beforehand that we'll be working there. Hope to see you there!”

THANK YOU to the amazing volunteers that have helped us thus far. Last but certainly not least, THANK YOU to the generous land owners who allow our community to access some of our Chester Challenge trails. Thanks to all of you, our community is able to enjoy outdoor recreation and connect with eachother & the beauty that surrounds us.
