We are in need of shelf stable foods to create meal kits for the Bethlehem Lutheran Church ELCA 's The Really Free Marketplace visitors.

As many may know. Disconnections have been paused till May. No organization can assist without a disconnect notice.

This will be leaving very high energy bills and families possibly without refrigeration soon.

We are hoping these meal kits can provide meals for families when this happen. Ask us what we need or how to donate!

We are still in need of shelf stable donations. Tomorrow evening is The Really Free Marketplace at Bethlehem Lutheran Church ELCA in Chesterton.

At the marketplace they will have a food collection bin.

A little update on the kits. While my original plan was to include a cake, I'm going to have to change course on this. I've learned that having both is asking for too much in one kit. The cake donations I have will turn into birthday kits for those that need them. I believe this will still turn out to be a good thing and open it up to more variations. Now the frosting, soda, and cake flavor doesn't have to be a specific flavor. We can mix and match with whatever we get🤗 I plan to also collect candles and balloons to add to the kits. The birthday kits can be requested at anytime and not just during the The Really Free Marketplace.

We didn't meet our goal this time around, but that's OK! I'll still be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church ELCA this Saturday from 9-12 during The Really Free Marketplace big event to hand out what we have! Stop by to see all the free things at the market and on your way out come stop by the table and say hi!

1,000 meal kits sounds ambitious, but it's a small fraction of the people in our county alone who are on assistance. In 2024 there were 8,931 Food Stamp Recipients and 5,978 Reduced Meal Program Participants in Porter County. That doesn't include the people who are right above the cut off for being qualified for assistance. 1,000 meal kits doesn't sound like a lot when you look at the numbers. That's just one meal for one night.

I am so sorry I haven't been keeping up with posting here. Social media got put on the back burner while pieces were starting to come together in the background. You all deserve better than that though. Things are starting to move in the right direction with becoming a nonprofit. Paperwork is being filed as we speak and it's only a matter of time before I can work on getting grants to help us out. Patience has not always been my strength. I have an idea and I want it to be where I want it right away. This will take time, but it'll be worth it in the end💜
