When confronted with a widely accepted yet ethically flawed practice—bypassing full informed consent—he chose a path of firm but collaborative correction. “I addressed the issue by first verifying the relevant institutional and national ethical standards,” he explains, guiding his team toward compliance through dialogue, training, and practical solutions. Trust, too, became a cornerstone of his work. During data discrepancies in another maternal health study, he led with transparency and accountability. “I initiated a confidential review process and openly communicated with the interdisciplinary team about the importance of accuracy,” he says, ensuring both team cohesion and community confidence. His approach fostered continued participation and produced reliable findings that informed public health interventions.
