Help the Duneland Family YMCA PACK ITS FOOD PANTRY

As the holiday season rapidly approaches, the Duneland Family YMCA is inviting folks to help PACK the food pantry located outside its front entrance at 215 Roosevelt St., Chesterton.

The YMCA is asking for donations of quality nonperishable foods which you would be happy to serve your own family.

Together we can fill the pantry’s shelves with good food and help ensure that our neighbors have what they need to celebrate the season.

Drop off all donations at the YMCA’s Morgan Park location, at 215 Roosevelt St., Chesterton.

If you’re the parent of a Duneland Middle School or High School student who needs volunteer service hours, we have a volunteer opportunity at our upcoming holiday market at Chesterton High School for the following dates/times:

Friday, 11/6/26 from 4pm - 5:30 pm
Saturday, 11/7/26 from 6:15 am - 8:30 am
Saturday, 11/7/26 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Saturday, 11/7/26 from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Our sisters spent time together tonight creating terrariums at a lovely local business, Willow. Willow has a large variety of houseplants, local female artisans’ handmade items, permanent jewelry, and gifts. They also offer a variety of workshops, much like what we enjoyed tonight. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Stop by our Tri Kappa booth today at the European Market and pickup a Trick or Treat for UNICEF box. 🎃 We’ll be there from 9am - 1pm today collecting food pantry donations and pop tabs.

We’ll be back at Chesterton’s European Market tomorrow from 9am - 1pm. We’ll be collecting your non-perishable food or monetary donations for the food pantry. We’ll also be collecting any pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.

Come on out and enjoy the perfect weather, shop the vendors, and downtown Chesterton’s small businesses! We can’t wait to see you there!!

Our sisters do more for our local Meals on Wheels program than delivering meals. Last night, our sisters were at their annual gala Heels for Meals working their Fling the Ring game. I think it’s safe to say everyone had a good time!!

You can be strong, capable, independent, and still be experiencing abuse.

Sometimes it looks like controlling the money. Checking your phone. Cutting you off from friends and family. Manipulation disguised as concern. Threats. Humiliation. Using the children against you. Making you question your own memory. Controlling where you go, what you wear, who you talk to, or slowly making your world smaller until you barely recognize it.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Caring Place wants survivors to know this: abuse does not have to be physical to be abuse. And you do not have to wait until it gets “bad enough” to reach out.

We have resources for those experiencing domestic violence. Whether you need someone to talk to, help understanding your options, advocacy, resources or emergency shelter, you can start with us.
