Folks in unincorporated Porter County should contact their County Commissioner to request storm recovery assistance

The Town of Chesterton—both the Street Department and the Public Affairs Liaison—has received multiple requests from property owners in unincorporated Liberty Township for assistance in the clearance and removal of tree debris.

The Town of Chesterton, however, is unable to extend its operations outside its corporate limits, for two reasons in particular:

*The Street Department is projecting full recovery in the Town of Chesterton to take weeks or even several months. It doesn’t have the apparatus, the manpower, or the time to devote to tree-clearing or brush collection in unincorporated Porter County.

*Town of Chesterton residents pay a bimonthly brush collection charge as part of their refuse and recycling fee and the Street Department isn’t in a position to subsidize brush collection in unincorporated Porter County.

The Town of Chesterton is urging the residents of unincorporated areas to contact instead their Porter County Commissioner for assistance.

*DISTRICT 3 (NORTH) comprising Westchester, Liberty, Jackson, Pine, and Portage townships: JIM BIGGS. Call 219-465-3361 or email jim.biggs at portercountyin.gov

*DISTRICT 2 (CENTER) comprising Center, Washington, and Union townships: BARB REGNITZ. Call 219-465-3354 or email [email protected]

*DISTRICT 3 (SOUTH) comprising Boone, Morgan, Pleasant, and Porter townships: ED MORALES. CALL 465-3349 or email [email protected]

CLEAN FILL SITES IN PORTER COUNTY

Folks looking to dispose of tree debris—stumps, brush, tree limbs, chainsawed logs—may do so at three clean-fill sites in Porter County:

*VALPARAISO COMPOST SITE—operated by the Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County—at 2150 W. Lincolnway, Valparaiso. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Disposal of tree debris is FREE to Porter County residents at this site.

*CRISMAN SAND COMPANY at 736N 400E in Jackson Township. Call 219-462-3114 for rates and hours of operation. This is NOT a free service.

*DUNELAND MATERIALS LLC off C.R. 325N between C.R. 550W and C.R. 475W in Union Township. Call 219-746-1872 for rates and hours of operation. This is NOT a free service.
