Free The Girls: Fight Human Trafficking

Free The Girls: Fight Human Trafficking Free The Girls provides economic empowerment and reintegration services to s*x trafficking survivors. But with a community of support, every woman can thrive.

At Free The Girls we work to expand economic opportunities and reintegration services for survivors of s*x trafficking. For a survivor of s*x trafficking, freedom means more than just distance from their trafficker. Due to a lack of sustainable employment, 80% of trafficking victims will be re-exploited. Free The Girls provides:
Healing-Centered Care
Programs are developed in light of the traumas

endured by each survivor, in order to help them succeed and find healing. Education Reimbursement
Survivors are supported in the pursuit of an education as they prepare for a future they’ve chosen for themselves. Small Business Training & Investment
Women are trained to run their own businesses so they develop employment skills and workforce experience. Through these services and more, Free The Girls empowers survivors to provide for themselves and their families long-term, while also offering resources to heal and thrive. Your support is key to more women gaining true freedom.

Survivors face many challenges that make them feel vulnerable and powerless. We are grateful for the holistic ways our partners at Mission To El Salvador care for the women in the FTG program, including physical activity like yoga, dancing, somatic exercise, and self-defense class.

When we visited El Salvador earlier this year, our partners identified a need for sneakers for the women to use during these classes. In honor of Mother’s Day, we’re launching a virtual shoe drive! Can you help us fund 30 pairs of sneakers at $30 each?

Thank you for empowering women to “Step Into Freedom” and see their own strength! freethegirls.org

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate FTG’s 16th Anniversary than to share this update from our Costa Rica Program Manager Susie: Josseling graduated from the Free The Girls Program in 2023, and with support from our opportunity fund she went on to cosmetology school and now has her own nail business!
“For me, Free the Girls wasn’t just a program or material support—it was a reminder that my story doesn’t end in hardship, but in my ability to grow and change. Being part of this process helped me see myself again as a capable, courageous woman. Because of that push, I now walk with more confidence, and I’ve seen professional doors open that once felt completely out of reach—giving me the chance to build a strong future for myself and my daughter.”

Do you remember when you were looking for your first job and no one would hire you because you didn’t have any experience--but you couldn’t get any experience without someone first hiring you?

Now imagine being a teenaged survivor of s*x trafficking. You’re not only recovering from severe psychological and physical trauma, but you’ve missed out on schooling, and you may not feel comfortable in a traditional work environment.

Free The Girls is thrilled to announce our new partnership with The Exodus Road (TER) to fund a coffee cart business for survivors at Freedom Home—TER’s residential survivor aftercare program in Thailand.

The coffee cart is a real business where survivors can safely learn what it’s like to show up to a job, work with customers, learn about how to start a business, and to have something to put on a resume for future employment opportunities.

"We have long dreamt of having a mobile coffee business as a training ground and resume-building opportunity for survivors. In fact, this was part of the original plan for our Freedom Home program when we drafted it four years ago! It is remarkable to see our clients now able to realize their dreams of learning barista skills. The coffee cart showcases their creativity and entrepreneurship abilities as they gain hands-on experience operating their own business in the community. We are so grateful to Free the Girls for making this a reality for them!” ~ Sarah Ray, VP Global Operations, The Exodus Road.

“Free The Girls is committed to coming alongside partners providing aftercare to s*x trafficking survivors to help fill in gaps in funding and services. TER’s commitment to empowering survivors in their journey to freedom perfectly aligns with our mission and values. And it’s a great opportunity to invest in a sustainable economic opportunity for survivors that moves beyond our flagship bra-selling model.” ~Kimba Langas, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Free The Girls.

Kimba and FTG Board Member Amanda Montgomery were honored to attend the grand opening of the coffee cart and to issue certificates to survivors who completed FTG’s business training course.

Stay tuned for more information and updates about this exciting partnership!

Addiction is not consent.

The Diddy case illustrates how our federal anti-trafficking laws have not fully caught up with the evolving tactics of traffickers, particularly when it comes to drug-based coercion.

Today is the 15th anniversary of Free The Girls, and we are ever so thankful for the support you have all provided in helping us come alongside s*x trafficking survivors in their journey to true freedom—from donations of bras and bucks, to partnerships, volunteer services, helping build awareness, and much, much more.

We continue to listen to the women in our program and respond to their unique needs and individual circumstances. Reintegration is not a straight line and as always, we remain focused on sustainable, generational change — because true freedom needs to last a lifetime.

Here are 15 of our favorite photos and quotes through the years from women in our program sharing part of their journey, what FTG has meant to them, their hopes for the future, and how they define freedom.
