We're looking for wonderful vendors to join us for our Spring Garden show "Every Garden Can Make A Difference" on April 3rd! If you offer plants, garden products, handcrafted items, nature-inspired goods or other items that garden-loving guests would enjoy, we'd love for you to apply.

Getting started is easy. Our vendor application is in two parts: Part 1: Review vendor information, terms and conditions. Part 2: Complete the short vendor questionnaire. Please submit part 2 by October 1st.

Looking around your garden you might notice some of your perennials are dead in the center, or they are too big and lanky. September is an excellent time to divide them so they flourish in the spring. This creates new plants for you to fill in a bare spot or new garden bed. Be sure to water well before and after you begin and also allow 4-6 weeks before the ground freezes so the new plants can acclimate.

Dividing perennials is one of the easiest ways I’ve filled empty spaces for free 🌿 A few things I’ve learned:

✂️ I split plants when the center looks bare, flowering slows, or the clump becomes crowded.
💧 Water the soil the day before so the roots are easier to lift and separate.
🌱 Make sure every new section has healthy roots and several growing shoots.
🍂 Cool spring or fall weather is usually best. I prefer dividing peonies in early fall.

New divisions may take a little time to settle, but the extra plants are worth the wait.

The scores are in, and the winners of the 2026 TGCI Red, White, and Blue Planting Photo Contest have been selected. The winners and awards will be announced and presented at the TGCI Fall Seminar, themed “Go Native,” on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The seminar will take place at Lyles Station Historic School and Museum in Princeton. (Learn more on our event page: gardenclubofindiana.org/event/tgci-fall-seminar-2026/).

The committee enlisted three independent judges to score the entries individually and then collaborate to determine the top three winners. After reviewing the entries, the committee also added a fourth award category: Most Patriotic.

Judges
• Jon Chapman, retired Edward Jones financial advisor, nature photographer, and naturalist. Jon publishes an annual calendar featuring his nature photography.

• Megan Galbreath, editor and reporter for the Pulaski County Journal and Independent, a weekly newspaper. Megan is a graduate of Valparaiso University with a degree in communications and a concentration in journalism.

• Brad Conn, owner of Conncepts Marketing, which provides advertising and marketing services for small businesses.

Judging Criteria

The committee provided judges with a score sheet based on four categories totaling 100 points:
• Impact: Emotional or visual reaction on first view; evokes feeling, wonder, or interest.
• Creativity: Originality, unique perspective, and effective storytelling.
• Composition/Technical: Framing, rule of thirds, balance, leading lines, and lack of distractions.
• Quality: Sharp focus, correct exposure, good lighting, and color balance.

September is just around the corner and it is time to make plans to bring in any houseplants that have been thriving in the great out of doors. This video explains how to remove any critters that might have been summering in the pots and how to insure an easy transition for your plant babies.

The Duneland Garden Club held its August meeting in the beautiful garden of member Dawn Thostesen. The temperatures were moderate and the food delicious making the garden stroll a highlight of the season.

Summer meetings are special because members have the opportunity to showcase their hard work and share their love of gardening with their friends and clubmates. Membership does have its privileges!
