It was a beautiful day at Blue Heron Preserve on Sunday for our Scholarship Recipient reception! Grayson Yoder (Middlefield-Cardinal HS) and Peter Murray (Chardon-Hawken School) were awarded $2500 scholarships and Samuel Gdovichin (Middlefield-Cardinal HS) received a $1000 scholarship.

We were pleased to welcome Cardinal HS teachers Ben Clutter and Danielle Moon, along with the award recipients, their families, and FGP Trustees to this event celebrating exceptional student commitment to conservation, environmental science, and community leadership. We wish all three students the best as they pursue studies in environment-related majors in college this Fall.

Bravo to our office neighbor Aimee Pierson (Little Whimsies) on her award-winning photograph! Check out all of the GPD Community Art Show entries at The West Woods!

A huge “Thank you!” to all who both visited and voted at the “On the Wing” community art show at the West Woods. There was an astounding 296 pieces created by 185 artists and I am honored to have placed 2nd in the Photography category.

The winning piece is entitled ‘Reflections of Feather and Light’ and features a beautiful Reddish egret preening in still waters. It is for sale, with 20% of the proceeds going back to our fabulous Geauga Park District.

The show runs through July 26, so if you haven’t visited yet, please stop by to enjoy all of the incredible work displayed. Our artists, like our parks, are simply amazing.

And congratulations to all the winners in every category- bravo! Keep on creating!!

Kenston Middle School fifth-graders completed the year-long 🌿Nature Scopes🌿 program with a field trip to The West Woods for hands-on nature exploration led by GPD naturalists.

The Foundation was able to purchase the binoculars and field guides central to the curriculum for each student in the hope it will inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Since 2003, our generous donors have enabled us to provide these tools for more than 14,000 Geauga County fifth-graders! https://bit.ly/nature-scopes
