🌟 Signature Adult Program Spotlight: Shelby Heppner 🌟

Meet Shelby, a participant in the Signature Adult Program Class of 2027!

Shelby is the Director of Operations at The Hive and a lifelong Bainbridge Township resident. A former volleyball player and downhill ski racer, she still enjoys skiing with her entire family. She is also a certified professional nanny with a passion for working with children.

Creative and outgoing, Shelby loves party planning, organizing, cooking, live music, traveling, and spending time with friends, family, and coworkers.

Shelby applied to Leadership Geauga after seeing firsthand the incredible personal and professional impact the program has had on her coworkers. She is especially looking forward to discovering local treasures, learning more about small businesses, and exploring how communities can create meaningful change right in their own backyards.

Her favorite parts of Geauga County include the Great Geauga County Fair and trips to Middlefield!

We're excited to welcome Shelby to the Signature Adult Program Class of 2027 and look forward to seeing the connections she'll make throughout this experience! 💚

What a great day of learning about the incredible organizations and services supporting our Geauga County community!

We started with a panel on the continuum of care for at-risk youth, hearing from NextStep, Job and Family Services, and Family First Council.

We also learned about the amazing work of Geauga United Way, Vantage Aging, and NPower Services before touring Fieldstone Farm and Gaitway Schools.

We wrapped up the day hearing from the Library Foundation and Geauga Department on Aging.

How lucky are we to have so many dedicated organizations and leaders making a difference in our community! Thank you to everyone who shared their time and expertise with us!

🌟 Heritage Program Spotlight: Susan Mullet 🌟

Meet Susan, a member of Leadership Geauga’s Heritage Program Class of 2026 and a lifelong Geauga County resident with deep roots in the community.

Susan is married and the proud mom of two married children and grandmother of two grandsons. She recently retired from UHHS Geauga Medical Center, where she served as a 2 West Division Secretary. She currently serves as Board Chair of Maple Leaf Community Residences and enjoys baking in her spare time.

Susan is also passionate about preserving and honoring local history. For the past two years, she has been working to have a former Geauga County resident who was killed in action in Vietnam appropriately honored - a project that reflects her deep connection to the people and history of our community.

Susan chose the Heritage Program because she is proud of Geauga County's heritage and wants to learn even more about the place she has called home her entire life. She is especially looking forward to meeting new people and discovering additional opportunities to serve her community.

And Susan's connection to Geauga County runs deep - her father was born on the very road where she and her family live today!

When asked about her favorite part of Geauga County, Susan kept it simple: “It’s HOME!” She especially loves the deep sense of community that makes Geauga County such a special place.

We're so glad Susan is part of the Heritage Program Class of 2026 and look forward to seeing the new connections and experiences this journey brings! 💚

What a beautiful day to soak up the rich history of Geauga County! 🌟

Our Heritage Class of 2026 started the day hearing from Meg Noah of the The Great Geauga County Fair, followed by a fascinating dive into Geauga County's history from the amazing Dr. Bari Stith.

We visited South Newbury Union Chapel - National Register of Historic Places to learn about its connection to the women’s suffrage movement, then headed to Payne and Payne Builders, where Eric and Mike Payne shared the history of their family business and restoration work.

After lunch at Brown Barn Tavern and a little history from Marco Stanton, we visited Avonlea Gardens & Inn to hear from Amy Goletz, learn about native plants, and tour her historic Airbnb.

We ended the day with an informative panel on the Amish community, led by Chester and Nora Kurtz.

A huge thank you to our superstar volunteers Alice Munn, Dr. Bari Stith, and Tamee Tucker for making this wonderful day possible! 💚

Look what we accomplished together during 2025–26!

Because of the people who make up the Leadership Geauga community, we were able to:

• Provide a $50,000 donation to Maple Leaf Community Residences through the 2026 Emerald Ball’s Call to the Heart initiative

• Support the Geauga Hunger Task Force through a Signature Adult Program donation drive and more than $2,100 raised by the Human Services Day team and Leadership Geauga alumni

• Bring holiday cheer to area seniors with greenery centerpieces created using materials donated by Geauga Park District

• Complete a Service Day project at the Chagrin Falls Park Community Center through landscaping, cleaning, organization projects, and donated supplies

• Host 42 events, including 25 program days, resulting in more than 1,300 participant and attendee engagements throughout the year

And this is just a snapshot of what happens when our Leadership Geauga community comes together.

As our Alumni Giving Campaign continues, consider making a gift to help us keep doing this work - developing leaders, building connections, and making a difference throughout Geauga County.

🌟 Heritage Program Spotlight: Dale Smith 🌟

Meet Dale, a member of Leadership Geauga’s Heritage Program Class of 2026!

Dale spent his career at Avery Dennison as a Quality and Process Engineering Manager and has called Newbury home for more than 11 years. He and his wife, Jeri Ann, enjoy life with their two Labs, Keeva and Roscoe, who join Dale on daily hikes throughout Geauga County.

Dale has been deeply involved in Rotary International for 23 years, including six different clubs. He currently serves as President-Elect of the Burton-Middlefield Rotary Club and previously served as District Governor for Rotary International District 6630, covering Northeast Ohio, in 2024–2025. He also serves as Finance Director for Ohio VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster).

When he isn't volunteering or exploring local parks, Dale enjoys gardening, cooking, and home winemaking - from grapes, not kits! 🍇

After living in Geauga County for more than a decade while working and volunteering primarily outside the county, Dale wanted to become more connected to the community he calls home. He joined the Heritage Program to learn more about the people and organizations that make Geauga County special.

He's especially looking forward to discovering more about the county and meeting the people who live, work, and serve here.

Dale's favorite part of Geauga County is its parks, where he and Keeva and Roscoe walk 2.5–3 miles every day. With so many trails and beautiful places to explore, it's easy to see why!

We're excited to have Dale as part of the Heritage Program Class of 2026 and look forward to exploring more of Geauga County with him! 💚

Lift Your Spirits with the Geauga County Sheriff's Office LOSS Team!🎃

Join the Geauga County LOSS Team on Saturday, October 17, from 6–10 p.m. at Burton Century Village for an adults-only evening of dinner, dancing, drinks, games, raffle baskets, an experience auction, and costume and masquerade mask contests!

The Geauga County LOSS Team (Local Outreach Support to Survivors) is a volunteer-led organization providing hope, support, resources, and understanding to individuals and families who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Tickets: $70/person or $120/couple
