The intent of Lone Pine Farm is to create a holistic system that conserves and nourishes the land through the ethos and practices of biodynamic farming. A hub of research, creativity, and experimentation, Lone Pine seeks to bring visibility to the whole ecosystem of the farm, highlighting the ways that constituent parts—crops, livestock, trees, animals, birds, and bugs—interconnect to create a sel
f-supportive, vital system. The activities of Lone Pine Farm & Studio adhere to a long-term conservation plan that strives to increase the agricultural, recreational, and educational viability of the land. Lone Pine also supports individual research through its Residency programs. Each year, we welcome a Farmer-in-Residence—an emerging farmer who, with the support of Lone Pine, cares for the land, produces resources, and cultivates community-based support. Lone Pine Farm & Studio is a venue to explore alternative farming practices through hands-on experimentation. A selection of our research interests include: soil health; food security; managing invasive plants and pests; bacteriology and plant health; cereal crop rotation; forage crop production; wastewater treatment; community-based agricultural systems; beekeeping. Alongside the Farmers are Artists-in-Residence. These makers, craftspersons, designers, culinary professionals, medicinal healers, and others will engage the landscape of Lone Pine Farm and Bainbridge Island as the inspirational site of creative work. The intent of the Artists-in-Residence program is to draw from perspectives and ideas outside the field of agriculture. This cross-pollination between different ways of thinking about and engaging the natural world enriches the project as a whole, creating new, innovative connections that promote the sustainability of both agriculture and art.
