It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of "Dr. Bruce Bacon". Dr. Bacon served as the Div. Dir. of GI & Hepatology at the SLU Liver Center from 1990-2010 and was Co-Director of the Liver Center until his retirement in 2020. Throughout his years of treating and caring for thousands of patients, Dr. Bacon made notable impact in the study of liver disease throughout his clinical and research years. He served on many committees, was presented with many awards, and received numerous accolades for his outstanding patient care.

Since 2003, we have known Dr. Bacon as the leader and driving force behind the establishment and growth of the Friends of the Saint Louis University Liver Center. Dr. Bacon and his wife, Sarah, wanted to raise money for research at the SLU Liver Center to improve the management of care for patients and ultimately CURE LIVER DISEASES!

Dr. Bacon was a leading fundraiser for the Friends and his efforts have supported seed research grants, provided equipment and supplies for the Liver Center, and has led to numerous advancements in the study of liver disease. The Friends are forever grateful for the years we shared with Dr. Bacon!

We are proud to share this link regarding a treatment for Alpha1-Antitrypsin Deficiency! Dr. Jeff Teckman, Director, Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and Saint Louis University Liver Center member, has been a leading authority in the study/research of Alpha1 for many years. The only treatment for this disease, before this groundbreaking research, was a liver transplant. Congratulations and thank you to Dr. Jeff Teckman and his team for their dedication to life changing and life saving research!
