People have asked me what breed of dog would have if I didn't have Corgis. Well meet Rooster. Rooster is a young Cattle Dog mix. He's about 18 months old. He can be shy when first meeting people, but he warms up given time. He does well in his play group with other dogs.THe little guy needs the perfect home.
Now, Cattle Dogs are not for everyone. They have strong herding instincts. Genes are everything! They feel the need to protect and to move things right along. No young children. CD's can be ankle nippers, much like Corgis. The are energic, not couch sitters. They are perfect for the family that likes to jog, hike, well when the weather permits. They are great performance dogs. That means good at agility, and of course herding. Join the St. Louis Herding Club or the local agility club. Good for you and for Rooster! If interested, you have a fenced yard and no young children, contact the St. Charles County Adoption Center. Ph: 636-949-7387

We have had several inquires after taking little Lily into rescue. I have responded to messages. Lily will not be available for 6-8 weeks. When you send a message or email, we respond, then receive nothing in return, you are taking up our time. That's time that can be spent more effeciently for the dogs. Plus, it's just plain rude. I send an application or ask questions, no response. We have better things to do, and actually you should to. Think before you message or email. We work hard and spsend lots of money for these little ones. DOn't make the job more difficult.

Sometimes you have to act fast. Baby girl Lily was to be shot. No Way! From the time that we received the call until we got her was less than an hour. Many thanks to our team!

Note, it will be several months before Lily is up for adoption.

It's a difficult time in the rescue/shelter world. There are so many dogs looking for homes. Best Friends declared a national emergency in unwanted dogs across the US. Rescues and shelters are overwhelmed both in the US and some countries in Europe. According to Purdue Vet School, over population is due to lack of owners to spay/neuter, economic hardship and the increase of veterinary costs, unrealistic expectations by new owners, and unethical breeding.

Rescues are desperate for fosters, then foster dogs wait for months for a new home. We are doing our very best to meet the demands. This is not the time, there is never a time, for scamming rescues. Long messages and emails begging us to take a dog. When we do have a foster home available, the person who wants to relinquish their Corgi no longer communicates. Gone. In the wind. Was it all a hoax? What kind of person does this? We have better things to with our time. We work very hard to provide the best for each Corgi that comes to us. We beg for funds to meet their needs. Many come to us with major medical needs. We are fortunate to have veterinarians who know our breed and provide the best care.

The bottom line is don't contact a rescue, any rescue, asking for help, asking us or other rescues to please take your dog, then disappear, not responding to messages and emails. This is happening far to often. Again I ask, what kind of person does this?

Ever wondered why a dog suddenly stops and stares at absolutely nothing while you’re out on a walk? It turns out they are tuning into an invisible map of information that we simply cannot perceive. Understanding how animals detect scents helps us respect their perspective of the world.

1. Observe wind direction, because scent particles behave like invisible smoke moving through the air, traveling significantly further on a steady breeze.

2. Note the humidity levels, as moisture in the air actually traps and holds scent molecules longer, creating a stronger trail for animals like bears or wolves.

3. Look for physical signs of sniffing, such as a raised nose or rhythmic twitching, which indicate the animal is actively pulling in air to identify chemical signatures from miles away.

Learning to read these subtle cues transforms a simple hike into a fascinating lesson in biology. It is truly humbling to realize how much detail exists right under our noses that we just can't track.

That's a wrap on another Give STL Day! Thank you so much to everyone who donated, shared, and engaged with us during the event! Together you helped us raise over $4000 to go to the care of our rescued corgis! That makes a huge difference for our corgis and for us because every dollar counts. Again, we could not do this without our wonderful community of supporters. Thank you!!

This bears repeating. I posted this some months ago, but after seeing a few Corgis this past week, well, I just ust post again.
I'm not sure where the term "loaf" came from when talking about Corgis. Here's what a "loaf" is: 1)A torn cruciate just waiting to happen. Knees can't take all of the extra weight. Cruciate surgery starts at about $3,500.00. 2) Ruptured vertebra. Very painful, and requires surgery, if it can be repaired. 3) Diabetes. It is increasing in leaps and bounds due to over weight dogs. 4) High blood pressure and heart disease. Yes, your Corgi can die of heart failure because you think that a "loaf" is cute. 5) Increased risk of kidney and liver disease. Increased risk of cancer. 6) Overweight dogs have a shortened life span. Perhaps it's time for a diet?

In addition. Every treat that you feed has calories. That adds hundreds of calories every day if you are a treat dispenser. Try baby carrots, apple chunks, and remember that Charlie Bear treats are only 4 calories.
