Elder abuse is one of the most underreported human rights crises happening today — and too often, it hides behind closed doors, silence, fear, dependence, and shame.

It is not always visible.
It is not always physical.
And it is never acceptable.

Millions of older adults experience emotional abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, medical manipulation, abandonment, or intimidation from the very people entrusted with their care. Many suffer in silence because they fear retaliation, losing support, or simply not being believed.

We must do better.

As advocates, healthcare professionals, caregivers, families, and communities, we have a responsibility to protect the dignity, safety, autonomy, and voices of our elders.

Awareness is not enough — action matters.

✔️ Learn the warning signs
✔️ Listen without judgment
✔️ Report suspected abuse
✔️ Support vulnerable seniors
✔️ Advocate for stronger protections and accountability

A society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable populations. Our elders deserve respect, compassion, protection, and care — not silence.

If you suspect elder abuse, speak up. One conversation could save a life.

Many people have heard of PMS, but far fewer understand PMDD — Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder — a serious and often misunderstood mental health condition that affects millions worldwide.

PMDD is more than mood swings. It can cause severe anxiety, depression, irritability, fatigue, and emotional distress that significantly interfere with daily life, relationships, and work.

The good news? PMDD is real, recognized, and treatable.

Awareness matters because too many individuals suffer in silence or are misdiagnosed for years before receiving proper support.

At Affinity, we believe education, compassion, and early intervention can change lives.

If you or someone you know struggles with intense emotional or physical symptoms related to the menstrual cycle, know this:💜 You are not alone.💜 Your symptoms are valid.💜 Help is available.

Let’s continue breaking the stigma surrounding women’s mental health and create spaces where healing conversations can happen openly.

CASE UPDATE – CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

At Affinity Patient Advocacy, our mission has always been to stand up for vulnerable individuals who need protection, advocacy, and a voice. Today, we are incredibly grateful to share a major update in a Charleston, SC elder abuse case that has deeply impacted everyone involved.

After an extensive effort to locate the offender, Charleston Parole and Probation successfully violated and detained him. We want to extend a very special thank you to Charleston Parole and Probation for their persistence and dedication in helping bring accountability to this situation.

In addition, we were able to assist the elderly victim in obtaining a restraining order against the offender. That order is now fully in effect, and most importantly — the victim is finally safe.

In less than two months, significant progress has been made in this case, and we are proud of the collaborative efforts that helped move this forward. While the offender is now in a detention center, our work is not finished. We are continuing efforts to address the financial exploitation component of this case and are actively working toward recovery of the funds stolen from the victim.

This case also exposed serious concerns regarding South Carolina elder abuse protections under Title 43, Chapter 35. It became clear that there are gaps in the system that must be addressed to better protect elderly individuals from abuse, exploitation, and neglect.

One of the most concerning issues highlighted during this case was the urgent need for more comprehensive elder abuse training within law enforcement agencies. Elder abuse cases are often complex, and proper education is essential to ensure vulnerable victims receive the protection and support they deserve.

While there is still work to be done, we are thankful this victim is now safe and protected. Cases like this remind us why advocacy matters.

Protecting our elderly population must remain a priority.
