EDUCATION: Educational services are designed to help individuals understand substance use disorders and other behavioral health problems, as well as identify personal factors that may increase risk level. Referrals can be made by employers, court system officials, school personnel, and parents or family members. While educational services can be provided individually, they are offered most often i

n groups. PREVENTION: The purpose of prevention is to educate community members on healthy lifestyles where alcohol and drugs are only used in legal and responsible ways. The Hazel Pittman Center offers an array of Prevention programs that implement various strategies to help prevent substance abuse and promote healthy lifestyles. TREATMENT & COUNSELING: Treatment is a process that leads to change, and it “looks” different for everyone. Qualified staff guide the process by employing their education and learned therapeutic skills, along with evidence-based techniques and resources. The Hazel Pittman Center provides outpatient services. This means that people appropriate to receive clinical services from our staff are medically and emotionally stable and not in need of detoxification or inpatient services. While we can and will refer to other agencies for more intensive care, our clients do not have to leave their homes for more than a few hours to participate in treatment. Most attend counseling sessions between 1-4 times per week and remain in services until they have achieved their desired goals

Would Narcan be available if it happened nearby?

Since May 1, 2026, there have been 18 suspected overdoses in Chester County, with naloxone administered 17 times.

Those numbers are a reminder that overdose emergencies can happen in any community—and that having Narcan available can make a difference while emergency responders are on the way.

Hazel Pittman Center is providing free Narcan and brief training to help community members be prepared.

Parent University: Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Awareness Month is an important time to recognize the impact mental health has on our emotional, social, physical, and academic well-being.

It helps bring awareness to the importance of caring for our minds just as we care for our physical health. By acknowledging Mental Health Awareness Month, we create opportunities to reduce stigma, encourage open conversations, and connect families and communities with valuable resources and support.

Recognizing mental health strengthens our commitment to supporting children, parents, and the community, and to building healthy, positive environments where youth, adults, and families can thrive.

Join us on Thursday, May 21st, at 6 pm as we discuss mental health and its impact. Our guest speakers will be staff from Chester County School District, including a Mental Health Counselor.

Underage drinking and impaired driving remain serious concerns that can have life-changing consequences for teens, families, and communities.

Alcohol affects judgment, reaction time, and decision-making skills, increasing the risk of accidents, injuries, and legal consequences. Even a single poor decision can lead to DUI charges, loss of driving privileges, financial hardship, or tragic outcomes.

This Parent University session aims to provide families with the knowledge, resources, and strategies needed to encourage open conversations, promote responsible choices, and help students understand the importance of making safe, healthy decisions both behind the wheel and in everyday life.
