Congratulations to the members of Chester Fire Fighters Local 1400 on earning 2nd Place at the Annual Delaware County Fallen Fire & EMS Memorial Softball Tournament this past weekend!

This tournament has become a tradition that our members look forward to every year, and we are especially proud to say that Local 1400 has participated since the tournament’s inception. After years of competition and camaraderie, this year marked a historic milestone for our team as we advanced to the championship game for the first time ever, ultimately bringing home a hard-fought second-place finish.

While we’re proud of the accomplishment on the field, this event is about much more than softball. It is an opportunity to honor and remember the firefighters and EMS professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice while strengthening the bonds of brotherhood among first responders throughout Delaware County.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, participating departments, and supporters who continue to make this event possible each year.

Most importantly, we remember the fallen heroes whose service, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

For the members of the City of Chester Bureau of Fire, Memorial Day also carries a deeply personal meaning as we remember Harry Baxter, the only member of our department to be killed in action during wartime.

Harry Baxter gave his life during the Battle of the Bulge, one of the most brutal and defining battles of World War II. He answered the call to serve not only his community as a fireman, but his country as a soldier, making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom.

Today, we proudly honor his memory and legacy, along with all military heroes who never made it home.

Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty will never be forgotten.

We remember. We honor. We carry their legacy forward.

Today, the members of D-Platoon exemplified what it means to be members of the City of Chester Bureau of Fire and Local 1400.

While completing daily housework, crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 500 block of Fern Lane in neighboring Upland Borough. The Delaware County Emergency Services 911 Center was receiving numerous calls reporting a working fire with a person trapped inside.

Company 82, along with Cars 3, responded quickly and arrived to assist our neighboring department, going to work in their assigned roles.

At the same time, Squrt 81, along with our EMS partners, responded to Interstate 95 North for a multi-vehicle accident involving numerous injuries.

Two significant incidents unfolding simultaneously, in two different locations, requiring professionalism, teamwork, and adaptability. Today’s events are a reminder of the commitment, pride, and dedication displayed daily by the members of Local 1400 and our partners in public safety.

Strong work by all involved.
