Exciting News! Last night the Chester Township Town council officially named the project area “Raymond Griffith Campsite”! After almost a year of interviews and research we are thrilled with the decision. Ray was a Chester Township Resident who built his home with his wite Eileen and raised three children. He was a Korean War Army Veteran, who came back to Chester and lived a life of service for his community. As a Scoutmaster in Troop 139 he camped throughout our Township. He volunteered with Chester's American Legion Post 342 and the Morristown VFW and focused on helping Veterans returning from Vietnam, and later the conflicts in the Middle East. He also served on the Chester Parks Commission and worked with the Morris County Arboretum for 7 years. Ray set a high bar of service and is the epitome of an individual whom our parks and facilities should be named.

Josh, assembled and erected the final portion of the project today. The 24’ flagpole, repurposed and graciously funded by Bernays Apgar-Larry Maysey American Legion Post 342, the Legion Riders, and the Sons of the American Legion. Just a few final touch ups, naming the site, and a ribbon cutting!
