A quick update from our team:

In previous years, we host 10+ beach cleanups with our incredible volunteers. This year, we’ll be hosting **two cleanup events** instead as we navigate some personal commitments behind the scenes.

Even though there will be fewer events, our mission hasn’t changed—and we’d love to see our community come out and make these two cleanups count.

Our cleanup dates are posted below. Please ensure you register prior to the event to read important info and attest to our policies. Thank you for always supporting local, grassroots environmental work. 🌎💙

It’s that time of year again! Please join us for the International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 20th from 9 - 11 am at Terrapin Nature Park.

For 13 years, KIBCU has been hosting this worldwide volunteer cleanup event right here on Maryland’s Eastern Shore - hundreds of people from all over our state (even our neighbors) have been coming out to fight for Trash Free Seas!

In partnership with volunteer organizations and individuals around the globe, the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) engages people to remove trash from the world’s beaches and waterways. Thanks to millions of volunteers around the world, the ICC has become a beacon of hope, leading and inspiring action in support of our ocean. Since its beginning, more than 18 million volunteers have collected more than 380 million pounds of trash!

Come join us to be a part of the solution.

Registration is available on our website 🌊 ✌🏼 🩵 🌏

Following a tied vote on a proposed ordinance 25-06 An Act Concerning the Use of Plastic Bags in Queen Anne’s County, the County Commissioners have announced a new initiative in partnership with Plastic Free QAC, aimed at encouraging residents to bring their own reusable bags when shopping.

The “Bring Your Own Bag” campaign is a county-wide public outreach effort that promotes reusable bag use as a practical, voluntary step toward reducing waste and protecting the environment.

As part of the initiative, the County will be distributing 10,000 high-quality reusable shopping bags free of charge to residents and local businesses. The bags, made from recycled plastic bottles, are sturdy, washable, and comparable to those sold in stores for $1.50–$2.00 each.

“This campaign is about education and empowerment,” said County Commissioner, Phil Dumenil “While it’s not a mandate, it’s a movement — one we hope our residents, businesses, and community organizations will embrace.

“I would also like to acknowledge Plastic Free QAC for sparking the conversations and leading the charge. Your hard work, passion and commitment to making Queen Anne’s County a more sustainable and environmentally friendly place does not goes unnoticed. “said County Commissioner Phil Dumenil

The reusable bags are funded entirely through the County’s recycling surcharge fund — a dedicated revenue stream generated from the host fees associated with rubble disposal at the RB Baker landfill. These funds are restricted for use on projects that promote recycling and waste reduction.

More details about the program will be announced soon.
