CHESAPEAKE SPORTS CLUB 2026 SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON

Chesapeake Sports Club - Scholarship Luncheon - May 11, 2026
one scholarship for each of our 9 schools and 5 at-large for a total of 14 scholarships in the amount $2000.00 each. We awarded $28,000 in Scholarships. As a club we work hard for our money thru our various fund raiser events and it's great to see the benefits of our efforts. In addition to our fund raisers, we are fortunate to have the support of club member Nathan Beck and the Beck Family Foundation. Thru the years Nathan and his family foundation have generously provided substantial donations to our scholarship fund, As a result we are pleased honor one of todays recipients with the Nathan T. Beck Scholarship. This award goes to a student athlete who has lettered in Soccer or Golf. Also, The Ted Beck Memorial Scholarship in honor of Nathan's father goes to the student who best articulates the importance that athletics has played in his or her overall development.
We also awarded two Roland Carroll Smith Memorial Scholarships in memory of one of our charter members and a huge supported of our club since the inception.

Thanks to the support of the Beck and Smith families, we have been able to grow our fiscal platform to ensure the continuation of our mission of supporting Chesapeake's student athletes and their move toward higher education. With the presentation of today's scholarships, The Chesapeake Sports Club has awarded 189 scholarships since 2012 totaling $333,000.

We will also present the Linwood Nelms Memorial Scholarship today. Linwood was a charter member of our club and organized our very first scholarship program in our inaugural. Linwood was a graduated of Oscar Smith and our club awards the Linwood Nelms scholarship to a graduating student athlete from Oscar Smith High School.

We also awarded the Robert G. "Buddy" Bagley Community Service Award. Buddy is one of our founding members and inaugural President. This recipient is awarded to the student who best emulated Buddy's Communitarian Spirit.

SPEAKER: PATRICK NICHOLS

Head Baseball Coach at Greenbrier Christian Academy; numerous state championships; played high school ball (catcher) for Gary Lavell at GCA; played college ball at Coastal Carolina; drafted by Washington Nationals.

Prior to appointment to GCA head coaching position, Pat was an assistant to Coach Lavell and he coached the Cuddyer/Upton 7-Cities Blasters U12-U13 showcase teams which featured a roster of 13-15 ball players, almost every one of whom went on to play college baseball (including my son, John – VMI). Those teams were dominant in competitions up and down the East Coast, even when they played up one or two age groups.

He brings a youthful exuberance for his game, his coaching, his school, his players and his home town.

Hope to see you at our March Luncheon!
