Chesapeake has more than 80 public parks spread throughout the City, all hosting a variety of unique activities ranging from leisurely secluded walks in nature, large-scale special events, and everything in between.

This month, we’re highlighting Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism's Lakeside Park (1441 Bainbridge Boulevard): https://youtu.be/zr-8Mg9P51U. Built in 1933 and located in the South Norfolk section of the City, this 11-acre park has mature trees and a scenic archway bridge that provides historic and panoramic views. Lakeside Park features an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-accessible walkway to the bridge, a renovated footbridge over the lake, a fishing pier, picnic shelters with grills, and an ADA-accessible playground. 🇺🇸 We’re getting ready for a big 4th of July Celebration this year! 🇺🇸

Applications must be received by June 19, 2026!

In case anyone needs a reminder, we’re celebrating 250 years of American Independence this year, so we want to make sure things are extra special!

Parade route should be the same as years past, but we want everyone to rest assured we’re “monitoring the situation” on Bainbridge Blvd and have been communicating with our community partners to ensure everything is ready by July!

What a wonderful morning in Portlock today. Thank you to all who attended our Liberty Tree Planting and Dedication Ceremony.

Thank you to the Great Bridge Chapter of the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution for partnering with the South Norfolk Civic League for this patriotic event.

As we continue to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of American Independence, let us all remember to be good stewards of Liberty in every community!

Call for Special Election:

At our next regular membership meeting, held on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 6:30pm, we will be accepting volunteers and nominations from the floor for the office of Treasurer for the remaining 2026-2027 term.

Nominees must be members of the League in good standing.
