Sleeptight

Sleeptight For families unable to afford a crib and without sufficient knowledge about safe-sleeping, the risk for positional asphyxia or SIDS is much too high.

Sleeptight Hampton Roads is a collective impact program working to promote safe sleeping and reduce sleep-related infant deaths in the South Hampton Roads region of Virginia. A five year study done by the Chesapeake Health Department indicated that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is one of the leading causes for infant mortality. A large number of these deaths are due to positional asphyxia—a

type of suffocation caused by body positions that restrict airflow and a fatal condition often caused by unsafe sleeping environments. Too often, these unsafe sleeping environments include infants sleeping in laundry baskets, in dresser drawers, on a sofa, or co-sleeping with adults or other children. The sleeptight campaign provides an opportunity for any low-income parent in the region to attend a one hour safe-sleeping educational program and to receive a Graco Pack n’ Play crib at no cost.

Sleeptight is in CRITICAL need of pack-n-play cribs. We have been unable to supply cribs to our partner sites. This means families in need will not have a safe place for their baby to sleep. Last year, we were able to help 450 Hampton Roads families keep their baby sleeping safely. Please, donate today and help keep at least one baby in Hampton Roads sleeping safely.

Suffocation is a leading cause of infant sleep-related death. You can prevent this by removing loose blankets, stuffed toys and other soft items from the crib, bassinet or pack-n-play.

Will you help? We have a critical need for pack-n-play cribs. We need to raise $5,700 to purchase 100 pack-n-play cribs. These cribs, along with safe sleep education, are provided to over 20 community organizations and given directly to Hampton Roads families in need of a safe place for their baby to sleep.

Please consider making a donation. The cost of a pack-n-play crib and life-saving education is $57.00, but every dollar counts.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the pink and blue lights, they will be on for two more nights.

If you see landmarks light up in pink and blue, it's a reminder that babies have specific needs when it comes to how they sleep and there's a group that has resources to help.
