๐Ÿ†Once again, the CCPAAA is proud to present the Top Boot Award to the newest graduating class of the Chesapeake Police Department Basic Police Academy.

The Top Boot Award is presented to the officer candidate who has been voted upon by his or her peers to be that officer they would want watching their back during a dire situation. Along with having their name inscribed on the award until the next graduating class, their name will appear on the permanent plaque that is displayed at the Chesapeake Law Enforcement Training Academy. In addition, they also receive a $100 gift card from the CCPAAA!

We are happy to announce that the Top Boot Award for the 81st Session of the Chesapeake Law Enforcement Training Academy goes to Officer Jalik Ruffin.

President Patti Warren, on behalf of the Chesapeake Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, had the honor of presenting this award at the graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

Congratulations to Officer Ruffin and the entire 81st Session of the Basic Police Academy! Thank you to each of you for your commitment to serve the citizens of Chesapeake. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš”

๐Ÿ–ค Honoring Police Officer Raymond N. Shacklock ๐Ÿ–ค

During National Police Week, the Chesapeake Police Department pauses to remember and honor the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. This year, we are proud to recognize and add Special Officer Raymond Shacklock to our memorial wall after his line-of-duty death was formally recognized. His name will also be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

On September 14, 1921, Officer Shacklock was shot and killed while pursuing a suspect during a raid on an illegal alcohol still in the Bruceโ€™s Park area of what was then Norfolk County. After officers disrupted the illegal operation, a suspect hiding nearby fled into the brush. Officer Shacklock pursued the suspect and was later found mortally wounded in a nearby field.

The suspect was later arrested, convicted of first-degree murder, and sentenced to life in prison.

Officer Shacklock had served with the Norfolk County Police Department for approximately three months. Tragically, he was killed on what would have been his final day with the agency after previously submitting his resignation at the request of his wife. He was survived by his wife and young child.

More than a century later, we ensure his sacrifice is not forgotten.

So that we never forget. ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿš”
