West Virginia lost one of its bravest as Veteran, Purple Heart recipient and active community member Julian "Jule" Heath Sockman passed away.

VFW Post #8363 members participated in a Buddy Poppy Drive in the local community on Saturday, May 31st. We were honored to have our oldest post comrade, Julian Sockman, 102-year old WWII combat Veteran (The Battle of the Bulge), supporting our program.

VFW Post #8363 participating in VFW Day of Service at the LOVE Outreach Food Bank in Chesapeake, WV. The Post collected food during the month of April and May along with $425 in cash donations. Over two days in May, the Post members worked at the food bank packing food boxes and distributing food to 98 families in the community.

Past Post All-American Commander Kevin Holland passed away yesterday. He will be missed by his fellow VFW Comrades.
Prayers for strength go out to his wife, Tiffany, and his Family through this difficult time.

VFW Post 8363 Chesapeake and several individual post members donated $2600 towards the Hurricane Relief Effort. PSC Corrina Boggess spent the day buying relief supplies with the donated money. First stop was Sam's with the assistance of Department A/Q Light and Deparment Asst. Quartermaster Sockett. Second stop was the Walmart in Hurricane, WV. With the help of Melanie at Walmart, PSC Boggess picked up additional relief supplies.

URGENT!!

All VFW Posts in the State of West Virginia will start collecting emergency relief supplies to go to Tennessee and South Carolina.

(District 2’s main collection point will be Mason Post 9926)

Relief centers operating down in the disaster area has requested the following items to be donated:

Bottled water, hydration packs, toiletries, blankets, shoes, pet food, socks, underwear and other clothing needs, paper towels, toilet paper, non-perishable food, adult and children's diapers, baby wipes, trash bags, feminine hygiene products, and cleaning supplies

This is by no means an exhaustive list but will give you direction on the most urgent needs.

Target delivery date is 13/14 of October!

Applies to Veterans with a 90-100% disability rating. At a minimum, you will need to pay real property taxes on your primary residence by October 1st. The paid tax receipt(s) along with your VA Disability Letter will be submitted in 2025 when you submit your State Income Tax Form. If you typically do not submit a State Income Tax Form because you are no longer working, you will still need to submit the tax form with required documents to receive a rebate on actual real property taxes paid.

I was placing flags today at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery with the scouts. I was honored to place a flag at Woody's headstone and shared his story with a few scouts working near me. He was a great American Hero and a dear Friend.
