Ricky Vest became a U.S. Army National Guard chaplain in rural Vermont three years ago.

He found it difficult to find gospel-preaching churches to suggest to those in his care, so God led him to start his own church in 2023.

His Bible studies have grown from 2 to 42, and just last month, 11 people, including 4 Military Members, were baptized.

Here is the testimony of one of those Military Members:

“At 20 years old, I came home from a combat deployment struggling with PTSD ...

I was going down a dark path, struggling with drinkin’ and lashing out. My friend told me to go to church with him, and I surrendered my life to Christ that day.

Ever since, I haven’t struggled with my PTSD, knowing God will take care of me and the people around me.” – John (U.S. Army Reserves)

During his workday, Ricky spends time ministering to Military Members, which has created a perfect on-ramp for church planting.

Most chaplaincy positions are full-time, but many chaplains, especially those serving with the Guard and Reserve, would have the margin to start a church simultaneously!

Friends, please help us spread the word! This is a great opportunity for uniformed women! Jointly hosted and sponsored by Navigators Military & First Responders, Cru Military, Planting Roots, Christian Military Fellowship, Olive Branch International, Officers' Christian Fellowship (OCF), and Women In Love With The Lord - WILL.

A joint effort by Navigators, Officers Christian Fellowship, Cru Military, Olive Branch International, Christian Military Fellowship, Women in Love with the Lord, and Planting Roots is bringing a retreat for uniformed women, to Jefferson, Texas, May 23-26, 2025.

With the intent to encourage and equip these women in the mission God has for them, they’ll experience a weekend of rest, connection with other uniformed women, discussion around shared military experiences, and development of a deeper relationship with Jesus. We will be reading through the book of Ephesians as we get “Rooted and Ready” for all God has for us.

The weekend will include large group sessions, workshops, worship, and downtime for rest and reflection.
