Soak and swell, soak and swell, that makes a deadrise, cross-planked vessel safe and well.

As the skipjack Martha Lewis gathers strength, so does the virtually unknown nonprofit who supports her.

In the coming months, the boat will return to service and at the same time, the organization tasked with safeguarding the vessel, takes progressively larger steps to becoming as “safe and well” as their charge.

A week late so that makes it about $7 short but here are some photos from the inaugural Chesapeake Field Photography and Near-Shore Tour last weekend, which took the group down to Kent County and along the beautiful Sassafras River, the Chesapeake Bay and some hidden tributaries. The group enjoyed lunch catered by Deep Blue at Kitty Knight and photography instruction by Mike Keller ( on Insta). We look forward to sharing some of the resulting photography on our social media pages, but for now, we can take a peek behind the scenes to see these enthusiastic and talented photographers in action!
