Album Review: Electrocutioner – Harbringer
When it comes to modern thrash metal, few bands manage to capture the raw, unrelenting energy of the genre’s pioneers while still pushing things forward. Electrocutioner’s latest record, Harbringer, does exactly that. From the opening riff, it’s clear that this is not just another retro-thrash attempt—it’s a statement.
The influence of thrash titans like Megadeth and Slayer runs strong throughout the album. You hear the razor-sharp precision of Megadeth in the intricate riffing and sudden tempo shifts, while the sheer ferocity and aggression call back to Slayer at their most venomous. Yet, Electrocutioner never feels like they’re simply mimicking their heroes. Instead, they channel those elements into a sound that’s distinctly their own—modern, punishing, and authentic.
Lyrically, Harbringer is a masterclass in what thrash metal should be written about. Instead of watered-down clichés or superficial anger, the album plunges into themes of cults, religion, and the end of the world/doomsday. It’s the kind of urgent, relevant subject matter that gave thrash its teeth in the first place, and Electrocutioner wield it like a weapon.
Production-wise, the album strikes a perfect balance between clarity and grit. The guitars slice like steel, the drums hit with bone-crushing precision, and the vocals snarl with conviction. There’s no excess gloss here—just pure, unfiltered thrash delivered with the intensity fans crave.
At the end of the day, Harbringer isn’t just another thrash album—it’s an album of the year contender and a reminder of why we fell in love with this genre in the first place. Electrocutioner has crafted a record that sits proudly alongside the greats while carving its own legacy.
Rating: 10/10 – A thrash metal triumph.
