MCCS Cherry Point Single Marine Program

The Single Marine Program (SMP) contributes to the improvement of total force readiness, job performance, and retention by supporting the enhancement of Quality of Life (QOL) for all single Marines, including unaccompanied Marines. The SMP includes all single service members aboard Marine Corps Installations. The SMP serves as the voice for single Marines in identifying QOL concerns, developing QOL initiatives, and providing recommendations through advocacy, recreational activities, special events and community involvement, which enhance morale and well-being. Quality of Life includes all activities and issues that directly or indirectly influence personal readiness, morale, living environment, and personal growth and development. The SMP incorporates commanders and leaders in the SMP QOL process and provides the means to be involved and active. SMP ACTIVITIES OVERVIEW Daily activities for Marines: Over 30 TV’s with most games and sports packages, Satellite radio, over 30 Laptops with free Wi-Fi and printing, Chess Games, Darts, Pool, Poker, Video Game Systems with over 202 games (Wii, PS3, & Xbox), corn-toss, Skate Park, Sand Volleyball, Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, and free movie passes. A future anticipated addition is the 8mm movie program. Weekly Events: Tailgate Sundays (seasonal), Pool Tournaments, Texas Hold’em Tournaments, DJ, Karaoke, Chess, and Discounted Golf. Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Events: Monthly: SMP Council Meetings, SMP Entertainment Series (bands – will be moving to quarterly in August), Hip Hop Night at Cunningham’s, Quarterly: Bosses Night Tug-of-War Competition, Autocross, and Video Game Tournaments. Bi-Annual: Devil Dog Open Golf Tournament Annual: Car Show, Thanksgiving Dinner, and Holiday Dinner in December. Adding the East Coast SMP Paintball Tournament once the field is completed. Special Trips and Events: Trips to sporting events (college and professional) – including the Bobcats, the Hurricanes, and the Panthers, DC, Theme Parks, White Water Rafting, ghost walks, deep sea fishing, malls, local beaches, ski trips, UFC Fight in Charlotte, and more. Special events such as barracks bashes, comedian, photography classes, food for Marines on duty on the holidays, welcome home cookouts, pool party, sporting tournaments such as dodge ball and volleyball, holiday parties at Cunningham’s, special appearances from professional pool player Tony Crosby and music artists Sarah Buxton, Slocum Adventure Days, Golf Clinics (coming summer ‘10), intro to Scuba, and surf lessons.
