as we end the 2026 SC Jazz Festival in Cheraw, SC... Celebrating the Jazz Legacy of Dizzy Gillespie

South Carolina's Jazz Ambassador, Mark Rapp, leads a seven-piece band through the life of America's first one. PASSPORT traces Dizzy Gillespie's music from the Cheraw church that gave him his rhythm, to the New York clubs where he built bebop, to Havana, to the 1956 State Department tour that carried jazz across three continents — and back home again. Trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, bass, drums, and Afro-Cuban percussion, with the story told between the tunes. Ninety minutes, no intermission.
