Wallace SC - Old Wire Road Bridge update # # #

Per email from SCDOT Project Manager, Tony Edwards: Street signs are going up this week and the bridge will be open for public use on Friday, April 18th!

The new Old Wire Road Bridge is progressing quick. Check out the progress below!

The old Dam was abandoned by the owners and the creek will no longer be dammed up. Free flowing creek / pond with a 1 to 2 foot cutout underneath will make the underlying water remain at lower levels than before.

The new Old Wire Road Bridge being constructed will be up to 4 higher than the previous one to help protect from washout (local crew source).

Guard rails down, demolition has begun.

Old Wire Rd, Wallace SC - Dam removal, bridge replacement.

Feb 15, 2024- Six years later, work Is finally starting. According to crews onsite today, construction willl begin next month.

SCDOT Update:
Proposed S-165 (Old Wire Rd) Bridge replacement over Wolf Creek (McMeekin Millpond) in Marlboro County, SC

Project timelines have been extended due to issues with securing additional Right-of-way. The new bridge and supporting structures will be wider and will be redesigned requiring right-of-way from property owners impacted. This is not the same as property owners abandoning the Dam. That was secured the earlier part of 2023. The Right-o-way issue crept up over the summer and has now been resolved.

As of October 31, 2023 - The right of Way has been resolved.

Project is scheduled to be letted (receiving bids) in December 2023.

Contractor awarded and Project to start March 2024.

Project will be completed by March 2025. (1 year)
