This committee was formed to focus on the 130 neglected and forgotten Historic Cemeteries throughout Glocester. WHO WE ARE -
Back in 2018, the Glocester Heritage Society welcomed a new committee started by Bill Brown as part of the Heritage Society. This committee was formed to focus on the 130 neglected and forgotten Historical Cemeteries scattered throughout Glocester. This would be quite an undertaking that would include a vert aggressive cleaning of all the Cemeteries. WHAT WE DISCOVERED -
As we started cleaning we realized that some of these cemeteries had forgotten Veterans buried in them under all the brush and fallen trees. It was clear it was up to us to bring the respect back to these Heroes. We also found that most of these Historic cemeteries no longer had their original Historical Cemetery signs which displayed their state registration . At the same time we found dozens of fallen , broken gravestones needing repair and standing up in their original places. WHAT WE DO -
As a group of dedicated Volunteers we work 1 or 2 days per week cleaning 1 cemetery at a time using powered brush cutters , chainsaws , leaf blowers and assorted hand tools.after cleaned we document all the Veteran information and pass it on to the Veterans Administration so they can ad it to there website. Any cemetery that is missing its sign has a new one ordered and then installed when received. Every year in February we place our order for Veteran flags and then place one at every Veterans grave during the month of May. IN SUMMARY -
