Dapper's House

Dapper's House The Dapper McDonald ALS Residence, located in Chelsea, MA, provides a home and medical assistance to ALS patients from across the United States.

The vision of The Dapper McDonald Charitable Foundation is to provide people with ALS (pALS) residences that are comfortable, bright, home-like spaces, where patients receive expert medical care in a community of warmth, support and camaraderie. These neurological Green Houses®, located at the Leonard Florence Center for Living (LFCL) in Chelsea, MA, truly extend residents' lives – fostering indep

endence through the use of cutting-edge technology, continued engagement in the community and dignity in the face of misfortune. Each residence is equipped with special sensors throughout the facility. By simply looking at a particular spot on a computer screen, residents can take some control of their environment. For example, they can raise or lower the temperature of their room, open the blinds to let the sun in, turn on the TV to watch a favorite program, or call a nurse if they need one. This technology also allows residents to move freely within the facility, so that they can meet friends for lunch at the deli, relax at the spa, or spend time in the garden. They may also arrange other activities, such as an afternoon by the Charles River or an outing to cheer on their favorite local teams, including the Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots. Advances in ALS care open doors to possibilities that were previously closed. The Dapper McDonald Charitable Foundation envisions multiple residences; that would provide state-of-the-art facilities to men and women who are living with ALS, as well as their families, who have the peace of mind in knowing that their loved ones are not alone.
