Phase 3 (Sudbury & Framingham – 4.6 miles) – Sudbury finalized the purchase of 1.4 miles of CSX rail corridor from the CSX Corporation, from the MassCentral, just north of Route 20 to the Framingham line on November 30, 2020 This will ensure the Town’s control of the corridor for expansion of the regional Bruce Freeman Rail Trail system. “From Rails to Trails” is a new documentary by filmmaker Dan Protess, airing on PBS.org and local networks nationwide beginning October 15, 2025.
The documentary explores the origins of America’s trails movement, a political movement that emerged from the enthusiasm and passion of citizen activists who sought to protect unused rail corridors to create safe spaces for people to walk, bike and be active outside.
