One of the biggest garter snakes I’ve seen hanging out on a trail by the Chehalis River. Garter snakes can eat poisonous newts and western toads. They also love to chomp slugs and mice and that makes them my best friends.

This chunky dragonfly was resting on this leaf. I thought it was near death but after posing for photos it flew away. Did you up know they can spend up to five years in the stream as a larva? Yet another reason to help preserve and protect our streams and wetlands.
