Zonta Club of Centralia-Chehalis

Zonta Club of Centralia-Chehalis Chartered in June of 1972. Nancy Conrad and Evelyn Prang had both belonged to the Olympia Zonta Club and wanted to have establish a club in their new community.

Thus, the Zonta Club of Centralia-Chehalis was born! . In 1986, the tradition of honoriing outstanding club members was begun with the Zontian of the Year and Inspiration Awards. Donna Taylor was our first Zontian of the Year. Over the years, members have attended Zonta International Conventions all of ther country and world. Some of these places include: Portland, Washington D.C., Toronto, St. Louis, Detroit, Hawaii, New York City, Gothenburg, Sweden, and Turin, Italy. The list continues to grow. Club activities and efforts have included: donated pins to a Brownie troop, fire alarms to the Chehalis Fire Department, toys for Toys for Tots drive, and monetary gifts to Lewis County Food Bank and Meals on Wheels. General information

The Zonta Club of Centralia-Chehalis P.O. Box 475 Chehalis, WA 98532 The Zonta Club of Centralia-Chehalis was chartered under Zonta International. After being unable to join the Kiwanis Club of Buffalo, New York in 1919, (which was at the time, an all-male organization,) Marian de Forest and four other women were inspired to develop a new kind of service club, composed of women who were recognized leaders in their businesses and professions. The name Zonta was derived from a dialect (Teton Dakota) of the Sioux peoples, a Native American group. It signified the quality of being "honest and trustworthy." In its first 15 years, Zonta International grew to 130 clubs and continued to grow. In June 2011, there were approximately 1200 Zonta clubs in 64 countries and geographic areas.
