Off-Center Fed (OCF) Dipole Antenna

An Off-Center Fed (OCF) dipole is a versatile wire antenna beloved by amateur radio operators for its multiband capability. Unlike a standard dipole fed at the center, the OCF is fed roughly 1/3 from one end — typically at the 33% point — which creates a useful impedance match across multiple amateur bands using a single feedline.
The magic of the OCF lies in its harmonic relationships. A single wire cut for 80 meters will also operate efficiently on 40, 20, 17, 10, and even 6 meters with the right balun — usually a 4:1 current balun to transform the elevated feedpoint impedance (~200 ohms) down to 50 ohms for your coax.
Construction is simple: two wire legs of unequal length, a quality balun at the feedpoint, and a good run of coax to the shack. Many hams build them for under $50.

The OCF shines for those with limited space who don’t want a separate antenna for every band. It handles SSB, CW, and digital modes with ease. If you’re looking for a low-cost, low-maintenance, multiband HF antenna that really performs — the OCF dipole deserves a spot in your yard. 73! 📡
