Don’t forget to RSVP! Join SORBA Chattanooga, Hamilton County Tennessee Parks & Recreation Department, and Save Enterprise South Nature Park for a National Trails Day® volunteer trail work party at Enterprise South Nature Park!

National Trails Day®, hosted each year by the American Hiking Society, is a nationwide day of stewardship, advocacy, and outdoor recreation that celebrates the importance of trails and public lands. Communities across the country come together to maintain and improve local trails while connecting people to the outdoors.

We’re doing our part right here in Chattanooga at Enterprise South Nature Park. This volunteer work party will focus on the Atlas Trail, where participants will help with a “Lopperpalooza” trail corridor clearing effort and drain clearing to improve trail sustainability and rider/user experience.

No experience is necessary. Tools, instruction, and supervision will be provided.

Story and video coverage of the County Commission’s decision to acquire the 19 acre Boy Scout’s parcel with stated intentions to use the land as additional recreation and green space.

It looks like the gateway to ESNP will remain protected! Thanks to everyone who called/emailed/politely pestered their officials :)

The property across from Enterprise South Nature Park now jointly owned by the city of Chattanooga and Hamilton County. CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- “I don’t know if you can tell in my demeanor, but it is such a relief.” Will Enterprise South Nature Park be expanding soon? A purchase by the Hami...

This is HUGE news!!
We are one step closer to not only ensuring that ESNP remains protected, but also that the park could actually GROW in size with the addition of this bordering parcel.

Thank you to the Commissioners for their almost unanimous support (minus one vote), and the addition of a resolution amendment signaling the intent to rezone this parcel as OS (open space for parks and green space) after acquisition.

We will be working to keep the momentum going, keep up communications with the City, County, and RPA to make sure all necessary steps are taken to rezone this land after purchase.

Thank you, community members, for your calls, emails, and care for our largest public green space!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our ESNP Bird Morning Spring Migration event yesterday with The Chattanooga chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society. Experience and novice birders walked, gawked, and learned, identifying over 30 bird species in just a few hours. Some of the highlights included numerous male and female summer tanagers, spotted sandpipers, a couple of palm warblers, a fussy northern house wren, and white-eyed and red-eyed vireos in spades.

We’d especially like the thank Kent Pennington and Pen Sibley for leading the two bird walks, and to David Stone and Barbara Johnson for manning the observation station at the wildlife viewing station. Such a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise!

Enterprise South Nature Park is more than just a place to hike and bike, it is an important stopover habitat for migrating birds traveling through the Tennessee River Valley each spring and fall. The park’s mix of mature forest, wetlands, open fields, and edge habitat provides food, shelter, and resting space for songbirds, raptors, and waterfowl making long journeys across the continent. As development continues to fragment natural landscapes, protected greenspaces like ESNP become increasingly vital corridors that help wildlife move safely through our region.

Every visit is a reminder that this park is not only a community treasure, but also a lifeline for countless birds passing through Chattanooga on their way north and south. 🦅🦉🪶🐦‍⬛
