Keep Life Safe | Human Dignity
Week 1
In the weeks ahead, we are introducing a weekly pro-life study.
Each month, we will take one critical issue and walk through it together in a series:
Define the Issue – What is it, and why does it matter?
Expose the Threat – What is happening culturally, medically, or legally?
Tell the Human Story – How does this affect real people and families?
Equip for Action – What can we do?
When we are unified in truth, our impact goes farther.
THE ISSUE
At the foundation of every pro-life issue is one essential truth:
Every human life has inherent value, no exceptions.
This is what we mean by human dignity.
Human dignity is not something we earn.
It is not based on age, ability, health, or circumstance.
It is something every person possesses simply because they are human.
When we understand this clearly, everything else begins to make sense.
WHY IT MATTERS
Human dignity is more than a concept; it is the foundation for how we treat one another.
If every person truly has value:
The unborn child has value
The elderly have value
The disabled have value
The sick and vulnerable have value
Without this foundation, decisions about life become based on:
Convenience
Independence
“Quality of life.”
Personal preference
And when value becomes conditional, it can also be taken away.
If someone has to earn their value, they can lose their value.
THE THREAT IS REAL
Our culture is increasingly redefining the value of human life.
Words that once protected dignity are being reshaped:
“Choice”
“Healthcare”
“Autonomy”
At the same time, a new language is being used to justify ending life:
“Quality of life”
“Genetic selection”
“Death with dignity”
These shifts are not accidental.
Scripture reminds us:
“When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)
Confusion and division are tools used to blur truth.
We are also seeing deep contradictions:
We invest heavily to prolong life in some cases
While advocating to end life in others
We promote su***de prevention, yet in some places, assisted su***de is being legalized and normalized.
So how did something so fundamental become so divided?
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil…” (1 Timothy 6:10)
When life becomes tied to profit, power, or preference, dignity is diminished.
TENNESSEE IMPACT
Tennessee has taken strong steps to protect life through the law. (see 2026 Legislative Overview)
But laws alone cannot sustain a culture.
A culture that does not understand the value of life will eventually challenge the laws meant to protect it.
That is why this matters, not just in policy, but in people.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week, we will take this one step further:
How does this issue impact real people and families?
