Some people show up, and some people give everything.

Last Saturday, October 10th, for Unpacking the Backpack, our brothers Tana 9.13 and King Klown didn’t just perform or make an appearance—they poured their entire souls into our community.
What these two artists brought to the room is something you don’t see every day. They stepped up with an unmatched level of bravery, radical transparency, deep vulnerability, and fierce advocacy for mental health. Opening up like that isn’t easy. It takes an incredible amount of strength.

Yet, they traveled back to their hometown to do the heavy lifting—helping pull our youth and families out of trauma and guiding them into a healthy, thriving mental space. They gave more than anyone could have ever imagined, proving what true community love looks like in action.
Tana9.13 and King Klown, thank you for honoring our city with your truth, your art, and your hearts. The impact you made last Saturday will ripple forward for generations. 🖤💪🏾

For Joe Jenkins, creating change means helping people recognize their own potential, equipping them with the tools to move forward, and building a community where people have the support they need to thrive.

As the Founder and CEO of The BRAVE Effect and the Unshackled Mindset initiative, Joe has dedicated his work to supporting individuals navigating transition, reentry, and family growth. Through programs like the “Unpacking the Backpack” workshops and the Running Down Recidivism 5K, Joe creates opportunities for people to reflect, grow, and build a stronger path forward. His commitment to this work also extends to systemic advocacy through his service on the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Reentry Advisory Committee.

Mental health and emotional well-being are an important part of that work. Joe understands that lasting change involves more than addressing immediate challenges. It also means helping people build resilience, shift their mindset, and feel empowered to move beyond the limitations they may face. By connecting people with resources, encouragement, and community, he continues to create opportunities for growth and lasting success.

Through his advocacy, leadership, and commitment to empowering others, Joe exemplifies what it means to be an Equity in Action Hero. His work reflects the importance of creating pathways to opportunity and ensuring that people have the support and resources they need to build the future they envision.

We are proud to recognize Joe Jenkins as a 2026 Mental Health Hero Award recipient and celebrate the meaningful difference he continues to make in the Chattanooga community.

Join us at The Mental Health Hero Awards on October 29 as we celebrate Joe and honor his commitment to equity, advocacy, and the well-being of our community. ✨
