Scenic City Clay Arts

Scenic City Clay Arts SCCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community ceramics studio providing clay classes, outreach, & membership. We operate 2 Skutt kilns at Cone 06/6.

Scenic City Clay Arts is a community-driven non-profit that provides a ceramic studio space to the Chattanooga area. We offer classes and workshops to all ages and skill levels. We offer studio memberships to those who want to continue learning and working in clay. We also provide arts education community outreach programs to bring clay to the hands of anyone who wants to experience it! Our studio

houses pottery wheels, slab rollers, shelf space, handbuilding and wheelthrowing tools, a variety of glazes mixed in-house, underglazes, and three different types of clay (clay available for purchase). Come get your hands dirty with us! We host classes and workshops taught by some of the best instructors in the region.

Go ahead. Leak it. We have nothing to hide. 😌🏺

Just 4,000 photos of pots, kiln openings, works in progress, glaze tests, class projects, and that one really good mug we needed to photograph from 17 slightly different angles.

The camera roll of a pottery studio is a very specific place. 😂 And yes, I am out of phone storage.

We take pottery very seriously around here. Obviously. 🤠🏺

War of the Wheels is coming September 29, and we’re packing a whole lot into one night: six potters battling it out at the wheel, delicious food, drinks, a silent auction, and plenty of opportunities for you to interfere with the competition. 😈

Pick a favorite. Cheer loudly. Sway the competitions with your Boosts and Busts. Bid on something you HAVE to have. All while supporting 10 years of clay, creativity, and community at SCCA. ❤️

One of our favorite programs: Military Family Clay Workshops 💛

Our veterans, active military, and their families gather twice a month to create, connect, and unwind in our handbuilding clay workshops, led by a clay instructor and art therapist.

It’s been amazing to see the talent and creativity that comes from these hands-on workshops — and to see the friendships that are formed over clay and shared experiences.

These workshops are FREE and open to any military individual and their families (including the kids!) The active service member or veteran must attend the workshop.

You can see our upcoming military family clay workshops at sceniccityclayarts.org/classes - these workshops fill up FAST!

This event series is made possible by a grant from the State of Tennessee, Tennessee Arts Commission Arts Access grant. Additional funding is also provided by the George R. Johnson Family Foundation.
