Scenic City Clay Arts SCCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community ceramics studio providing clay classes, outreach, & membership. We operate 2 Skutt kilns at Cone 06/6.

Scenic City Clay Arts is a community-driven non-profit that provides a ceramic studio space to the Chattanooga area. We offer classes and workshops to all ages and skill levels. We offer studio memberships to those who want to continue learning and working in clay. We also provide arts education community outreach programs to bring clay to the hands of anyone who wants to experience it! Our studio houses pottery wheels, slab rollers, shelf space, handbuilding and wheelthrowing tools, a variety of glazes mixed in-house, underglazes, and three different types of clay (clay available for purchase). Come get your hands dirty with us! We host classes and workshops taught by some of the best instructors in the region.

We’re excited to announce Community Reclaimed, an exhibit celebrating the creativity, connection, and self-expression made possible through SCCA’s community outreach programs. 🧡

Join us for the opening reception Friday, November 6 from 5:30–7 PM at ArtsBuild! Come see what our outreach participants have been creating, meet some of the people and organizations who make this work possible, and celebrate the many ways clay can bring people together.

Featuring work created by participants from Girls Inc., Red Bank Community Center’s Active Older Adults community, Shepherd Community Center, South Chattanooga Community Center, CommonSpirit’s STEAM & Health Career Academy, ABIDE Respite Ministry, Safe Haven & Jimmy Simpson Foundation, La Paz, SCCA Military Family Clay Workshops, SCCA Q***r Community Clay Nights, and more.

Can't make it to the opening reception? No worries! The exhibit will be on display at ArtsBuild through Friday, November 20 during regular ArtsBuild hours, Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM.

MISSION MONDAY 🏺 There’s always something new to learn.

Your first slightly-wonky bowl. Your 100th mug. The glaze experiment that absolutely did NOT go according to plan 😅

It all counts. Practice makes better, not perfect.

Education is at the heart of SCCA. We create opportunities for people of all ages and experience levels to learn, experiment, mess up, try again, and keep growing through clay.

You don’t have to consider yourself an “artist” to walk through our doors. You just have to be willing to try! We’ll help with the rest. 💛

MISSION MONDAY 💛 Access matters.

We believe everyone deserves the chance to experience what it feels like to make something with their own two hands.

That’s why SCCA is more than a place to take a pottery class. As a nonprofit community studio, part of our mission is removing barriers to clay through scholarships, free community programs, outreach partnerships, and accessible opportunities to create.

Because creativity shouldn’t be reserved for the people who can afford it, already know how to do it, or know where to start.

More clay. More people. More opportunities to create. That’s what we’re here for. 🏺
