Last Saturday we partnered with a local gym to host an awareness workout event to their gym community and hoped that other local gyms would also come. We planned a great workout which highlighted the realities of child s*xual exploitation, and worked with the gym to meet the crowd where they are, while creating a fun and open atmosphere to grow and learn together.

We are still not over how amazing of a time it was. Between 70-80 people came. It was not about donations, but close to $1000 was raised. Questions were asked. And people were empowered to fight against trafficking right where they are. To shine their light just as they stand. It was a true testament to our hosts, and the Cleveland CrossFit community at large. Those are people who show up.

Thank you, everyone who came and did that workout, or came and cheered for others. The electricity from that day echoes.

Creating safety for those around you can look a lot of different ways. It's not always a declaration. Sometimes it's having done the work to heal your own wounds. Or staying curious and open instead of closed off. Or choosing to love radically instead of within conditions. Every. Single. Person. Is able to make a difference, and create safe spaces for the children and teens around them. We're here to help.

Coming up on February 11 is our community awareness event at CrossFit Portum in Cleveland! This is a chance to engage with our local fitness community utilizing one of the cornerstones of CrossFit's culture-- the Hero Workout. It will be a fun, engaging, community building time. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

Our holistic program seeks to aid and empower survivors in their healing and processing their hurt and their story. Our first phase of working with every client is establishing safety. This means assessing and ensuring physical safety while beginning to lay a foundation of what emotional safety looks like. Our presence, our conversation, our environment, all of it is intentionally built to be an example of what safety is and what it feels like. Even the most basic thing of staying curious, humble, and open starts to show our clients that with us, they are safe. And if nothing else is done, that in itself is a huge win.

Child s*x trafficking is an interwoven, complex problem.
The solution needs to be equally as interwoven and complex.
Working hand in hand with local schools, clubs, churches, gyms, libraries, and individuals is the best thing we can do to intercept hurting children and prevent exploitation in the first place.

When a group of people dedicate time, thought, and action to a cause, anything can happen. We have seen it over and over again-- a women's small group, a youth sports team, a church youth group, a missions board-- when groups like this commit, great things happen.

We hope that you'll join us at the Freedom WOD on February 11 at 9 am at CrossFit Portum in Cleveland! This workout is in the style of a CrossFit Hero workout, done to honor and reflect on the lives and realities of child s*xual exploitation. Each movement is reflective of a significant statistic.
This is a free community event, open to everyone from fitness enthusiasts to true beginners!

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor and reflect on the impact that one man can make. Acting peacefully but radically, to stand up for freedom, rights, and equality for all people.
As people who believe in the impact of just one person-- one voice-- one act of love-- one expression of potential-- reflecting on this day is weighty. The reality is that he could not have known the echoes and impacts that his standing up would have for generations. He could not have known the hope that his grit and determination would inspire for all of this time and counting.
What a message there. Don't forsake the "small" actions. Don't give up when you can't see the impact in the present moment. Inspire Hope. Break chains. Stand firm.
"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

Something that is really easy to get warped in our minds is that our journey to healing and wholeness is a lifelong process.
It's powerful when we are able to help our clients understand that there is no magic destination or arrival point at which we get to stop putting in work.
Believing in that magic phase, that arrival point, does us no good. It takes the focus off of consistent small actions and their value. It downplays our wins and our ability to effectively use coping skills. It even robs us of the pruning and value of hardships-- seeing setbacks as obstacles instead of ways that the Holy Spirit helps us to grow and teaches us new things.
When God calls you restored, it is so. But that doesn't mean the work is done. The beauty is in the process.
Pray with us today that we as staff and volunteers do our job of modeling and relaying that to our clients, and that they will live out this beautiful truth of freedom.

Today is Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
As an agency, this year our sight is on Hope.
Woven in the stories of every person we have served, hope stands. The hope to find a new path. The hope to stand and fight. The hope to break chains, change families, and impact generations. The hope for restoration.
This is our cornerstone-- the knowledge that that hope is God given, purposeful, and powerful.
Today we reflect on that hope, on the lives that have been completely transformed, the grace to get to serve, and the hope we have for this community.
