We had the pleasure on yesterday Tuesday, October 13th 2026 to participate as a community awareness event with the Chattanooga Police Department and the Neighborhood Services Division, at the National Night Out.

National Night Out is an annual community-building event that promotes partnerships among residents, neighborhood organizations, public safety agencies, businesses, and community service providers. This event provided us the opportunity to engage with community while sharing information about our local AARP Chapter.

We had the opportunity to talk with the officers, check out the fire truck, visit vendors booths, share in the line dancing, enjoy freshly grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and sodas. The weather started off hot but ended up feeling great. A great time was had.

Thanks to our chapter members Deborah H Taylor, Dorothy Edwards for giving of their valuable time to man the table and give the participants a little history of what we do in the community and for our senior population.

The Chapter meets the 2nd Monday of every month except July and August at 11am. Come join us and also follow us on Facebook.

On Monday October 12, 2026 AARP Chapter 22 Chattanooga had its first meeting in its new location. Thanks to Signal Centers for the use of their 3rd floor meeting room in the Upstairs Building. We were also pleased to have Sharon Green from Signal Center do our very first welcome to our members.

Our Speaker for the morning was Laurel Rhyne of the University of Tennessee Gerontology Dept at Chattanooga College of Nursing. Her topic was “The Five Wishes”. The information was very useful and informative to aged adults. It was informing us of the importance of being our own advocate for the end of our lives.

Announcements were made, two door prizes were drawn and birthdays acknowledge.

Today our chapter had the opportunity to participate in Blue & Brew: Coffee With a Cop. This was done at the Maple Street Biscuit Company. As always, it was a pleasure to talk with Officer Mayweather. We also spoke with several other officers to get an understanding of their operational responsibilities. Lots of questions were ask and the policemen did not hesitate to answer. The morning was very enjoyable and informative.

Thanks to all the chapter members who took time out of their busy schedule to help make this event as success.

Thanks to Loria Hubbard Associate State Director, Community Outreach, East Tennessee AARP for hosting this event and provided the delicious breakfast for all who attended.

Our next chapter meeting is Monday, October 12th from 11am-1pm at the Signal Centers 3rd floor in the Uptain Building.

On Monday September 14, 2026 our chapter had our first members meeting after our summer break. We had the pleasure to have as our speaker Mrs. Thera Beaman, Community Health Specialist of Purpose Point Community Health Center. Her presentation was on “Medicare Changes 2027”. She informed us that we should look carefully at the change of our particular insurance plans and make the proper educated decision that would work to our advantage to save us the most amount of money while still receiving the best care. Her presentation was superb. Our membership really asked a lot our needed questions.

We would like to invite you to join our chapter if you are age 50 and up. We would love to have you become a member.

Today our chapter members had the privilege to participate in the AARP Tennessee Executive Council state-wide Day of Service in East Tennessee. It was done at The Foxwood Food Center located at 3209 Wilcox Dr., Chattanooga. We had the opportunity to work alongside some of the state AARP volunteers. After we completed our time at the food center we all enjoyed lunch together at Aubrey’s. This was again another phenomenal day and experience for the chapter.

Our next chapter meeting is September 14, 2026 at Erlanger Community Health Center, 1200 Dodson Ave. Chattanooga, Tennessee at 11am. Please come and be our guest.
